Waterloo - What settings should it have?

Hey guys.

I have just finished a tournament called "The Feudal War (As it should be played) Tournament"

The tournament consisted of;

2 player Singles
3 player Singles
2 team Triples
3 team Doubles
6 player Terminator games

...all using the same settings.

I'm thinking of running a sequal Tournament using the amazing WATERLOO map but I am not entirely sure which settings to use for the tournament.

I am 100% sure that it should be FOGGY

I am 90% sure that it should be CHAINED

but...

I am only 40% sure that it should be FLAT RATE

So what do you think are the best settings for WATERLOO?

Answers on a postcard please...

Best settings IMO are:
Cards: None
Forts: Chained (Adjacent ok, but chained is better)
Fog: Yes
Teams: 2 sides (dubs 4p, trips 6p, quads 8p)
Singles: No more than about 5-6 players, 2 is best

Foggy - No Cards - Chained - Sequential.

Quads or Trips are good - or 2v2v2 also works well.

8 player Singles also gives good games.

1v1 is also a worthy choice - ask Benjikat.

Agreed. Flat rate isn't terrible on maps like Waterloo due to the large territory count, but Incandenza has a valid point. Flat rate IS for noobs. Go with no cards.

For a 6-8p game on waterloo, I could see maybe going with flat rate in the interest of having a more prolonged game. But flat rate in any sort of head-to-head is, indeed, for noobs.

As others have said here, the best way to enjoy the pleasures of waterloo is head-to-head, especially 1v1.

Your comments have really helped me crystalise my thoughts on this one.

You virtually all agree that Sequential, Chained & Foggy is the way forward and the vast majority say "No Spoils", so that's the way it will be.

I am also very grateful for your thoughts on the best match ups. My new tournament will, as a result, have the following;

2 Player Singles
4 Player Doubles
4 Player Terminator
8 Player Quads

(The games have to have either 2, 4 or 8 players for the Tournament to work)

Finally, your comments re; Flat Rate = Noobs.

The reason I was toying with the Flat Rate option, was that sometimes with No Spoils games, as soon as one person gets the upper hand it turns into a war of attrition, backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards until inevitably the first player grinds down the second, or the first player gets crappy dice and the second player gets the upper hand and then it all starts again. Foggy settings reduces this admittedly, but sometimes the boost of a good set of cards can break the deadlock sooner. Also, I like my tournaments to crack along at a fast pace and put a deadline on the number of rounds to get a result (20 for Waterloo) - Flat Rate would help the games to conclude quicker imao. However, I will probably go with No Spoils.

Nobody plays freestyle tournaments. Those games are unpopular because players like you use scripts to win.

I think you're in the wrong thread here Jeff. This one is about recommendations for a Waterloo tournament, not your insecurities regarding people's opinions of you. No one said there was "no skill" involved in fs, nor did anyone say it was "all about speed". Those are your words.

Also, you might want to be careful who you call "bad at something". Personally, I'm not bothered by it, but in the new, friendlier CC, some people might consider that an insult (flame).

so you say that some people have lots of speed and use that to win freestyle, then you complain when others carry on talking about the subject you brought up.

Freestyle tournaments don't work because of the different time zones. If there are more Europeans in a game then the Americans are tucked up in bed when the round ends and vice versa.

Freestyle is best for Speed games imao.
