A Nazi avatar got banned because it was offensive for some. I find this offensive and I am raising this issue. I agree that censorship sucks but since the Nazi avatar got censored I don't see why this shouldn't.

P.S. - Sorry I don't smoke...neither joints nor cigarettes!

and there is no correlation between a swastika and this username.....

i believe he is only making the point that he disagreed with the removal of the swastika as a form of censorship, not that he wants this one removed...but i could be wrong...the name is pretty offensive

as i posted before...i could care less if someone thinks hes cool putting a swastika in his avatar...i just assume know upfront what kind of person im dealing with...

however...it is a club...so lack has decided to err on the side of not offending people with it based on the fact that many consider it a form of racism

if this was a public forum, i think he'd be way off...but since its his club, he has the right to choose....

he leaves this place to itself quite a bit...its fairly liberal to say the least in here so honestly i think we just have to respect his wishes....

this isnt a public place...it is a club...if you consider it a theoretical building, he has the right to decide what pictures are hanging up on the walls

if he doesnt want a swastika...that is his right, because in the end this place is an expression of his speech...

Technically his name may go against the forum guidlines:

Bigotry, racism, religion-bashing or aggressively homophobic language;

Since it's basically religion bashing it may violate the forum guidelines, however a lot of religion bashing happens on the CC forums so, it's probably a matter of how much is actually tolerated. I think it's poor form to blame Ruben for bringing this point up though, he saw a name he felt was offensive and reported it. Ultimatly a mod will have to decide whether it is offensive or not.
Different things offend different people, especially since so many of us play from all over the world, it can't hurt to actually consider this before flaming someone.

you all are crazy....i just don't get it

1) AAFitz, while I agree with many of your comments, it appears you misconstrued Ruben--he does want the name changed, and he appears to be saying that the swastika was removed so why shouldn't this name be removed.....which is shitty and ridiculous reasoning

2) i dont see how the name "molestedbygod" can be considered religion-bashing. the person behind the name has not said anything about any particular religion, at least that a rational observer can discern....if you think the name is offensive to your conception of god, then the problem is in your head, as you cannot actually tell what god he may be talking about. hell, he may not believe in god himself. this could be viewed in philosophical terms rather than theological ones

3) one of the things i agree with Fitz on: this is lack's club and he sets the rules. Thing is, CC claims to have a liberal approach to free speech, and that is what is being tested here. I totally agree that lack should be able to set things however he wants and allow or disallow whatever he wants. Thankfully, we are allowed to discuss on this forum just how much lack and CC will adhere to their stated policy of generous free speech. This case is a perfect avenue for discussion.

4) I have no problem with the swastika being banned, it stands for genocide and anti-Semitism. i think we can all agree that kind of stuff should be eliminated from the world and discouraged in all discussions. but i think Ruben's crusade against "molestedbygod" is shortsighted and ill-conceived. every normal person should condemn genocide and anti-Semitism; but not everyone believes in god. in fact, genocide and anti-semitic violence have been carried out in the name of god, as well as "pro-semitic" violence (if i can use that term).

We should be responsible enough to condemn evils of the world that we can all agree should be spoken against. But free speech has to leave room for people to say things like "molestedbygod." It may or may not get removed, but it shouldn't be b/c some touchy believer doesn't like it. You see, Ruben, these sorts of things are allowed in the grown up world, because grown ups realize that they don't and shouldn't control the speech or thoughts of other people.

Nephilm with all due respect your argument is flawed in many ways.

First of all you say you adhere to free speech, yet you are against the swastika and agree that it should be banned. However you don't agree that this username should be banned. That means you aren't as liberal as you claim to be. You are SELECTIVE of what should be controlled like everyone else because depending on you OWN ideology the swastika should be banned but this username shouldn't.

Second you say that grown ups don't control speech or thoughts of people. You know very well that that is bullshit. Even in the most democratic countries in the world we have certain limits. These are laws. Without them there would be anarchy. So there is a limit to free speech. You cannot make racial or religious insults for example because you could end up in jail as there are laws against this. So once again your whole argument doesn't make sense.

Anyway I made my point and as I said earlier I am going to leave this issue in the hands of the mods. However I felt I had to respond to your comments.
