What's Better - Passion for CC or Pure Professionalism?

Post by Luxurious »

I don't know much about internet forums, but I do know that in general, I prefer people who are really passionate about what they are working on or talking about. As long as it's not a topic that is going to offend, I'd rather have people come out and say what they want to say rather than tip-toe around the issues.

So, my question that I'm posing tonight is: Which do you all prefer for someone who is moderating this site?

First of all, any topic of import will tend to offend someone when opposing opinions are offered. Any topic that will lend itself to passion will in fact piss off those who are disagreed with on it, especially politics or religion. That being said, Lack has been doing a damn good job here lately of keeping a rather open forum and still making money. How do i know? Because i haven't been band for a while.

I don't see why it's a choice? It seems entirely possible to me to be able to moderate a forum in a professional manner while still expressing one self and being passionate about issues.

Mostly I ask because I'm married to Optimus Prime, and I think it's unfair when his co-workers look down on him for having a passion for this site. If any of these admins or moderators knew how much he constantly thinks of ways to improve this site, they wouldn't give him near as much grief as he receives now. As long as this indecency stands, I can't acknowledge that any one of them gives him any credit for the work he does.

And ban me, Optimus, for bringing up all of this. Lock this thread and delete it. I freaking dare you.

Yes, his passion is misplaced in CC.

PC is overrated. Give me number 1 if I had to choose.

But I agree with this:

Professional in his or her dealings with others, especially on the forums. Passionate with respect to his or her views regarding the direction of this site.

Why anyone would not vote for the first choice is beyond me.

I imagine because they feel a bias in the way the question is worded, and feel that voting yes would mean siding with those who have complained about moderation in the past.

Sounds like personal information to me Optimus you better ban her.

However may I suggest taking your lap-top into a room that you can lock prior to doing this, and be prepared to stay locked in there for a while. ;)

As a mod, I think we're able to do both most of the time. I *try* to remain professional, and generally am able to do so, but at the same time if there's something I don't like I speak my mind...sometimes a little too much/too far...(you can ask Twill, Night Strike, OP, or Andy...they'll definitely all vouch for that).

As for moderators/admins looking down on OP for his passion, I've never seen him looked down upon...in fact, from what I've seen he's one of the most respected on the site. Nobody gets all the recognition they deserve, but nobody ever does. I think he's doing a great job, and his passion (and the passion of may of us mods) is what helps the site so much.

As a member, i've always liked and respected Optimus in spite of our debates over the Mormonism issue. He has always behaved professionally as far as i can see, and as far as his passion, well, i'm not one to kiss and tell.

yes, he may get challenged (mocked even) on that issue, but I've not seen him put down on any other issue.
Examples?

Easy fella!

Are you in jail? A Buddhist temple? If not, try going outside every now and then. There's women out there!

Regarding the poll: Obviously you want passion, but there is no need to kick up a storm. Causing a big fuss will only be harmful in the long run. You can't win every battle.

I'm pretty sure we make fun of everyone for everything, but most of us try to do it only in fun. If it's really starting to bother someone, most people will back off if asked.

Also, note to self: start making fun of Optimus Prime's passion for CC.

What number is that on the list? I've got to imagine you have at least 200 other things above it......like making more fun of captain.crazy or GabonX. I enjoy those.
