A "surprising amount of ignorance"? Let's explore this. First of all, i made no mention of his skin color, and i would venture to say that it is ignorant on your part to assume that from my saying he tried to make himself "whiter than white". "Whiteness" in the context here, applies to a lot more than skin pigmentation. Jackson had his black hair "whitened" by straightening it to the max. Jackson had his normal black nose mutilated into a Barbie Doll fascimile. The hair and the nose are probably the two most telling physical attributes that separate a black man from a white man (yeah yeah, i'm waiting for the inevitable stereotypical reference to another body part), and that's what i was referring to.F1fth wrote:

I'll concede that it was his fault his face (primarily his nose and chin) looked horrendous due to all the plastic surgery.
That's all I have to say about the guy other than his music was good.

Scouts, other organizations all have the policy of two adults with any child not their own. Most childcare centers have video cameras for the safety of the staff. As henious as child molestation is, I do think we are going too far in the other direction now. And I am not convinced it really makes kids any safer. We teach kids, essentially to mistrust strangers. But the reality is that the one who is likely to harm your child is someone you trust, not the stranger. Better we teach our children to trust themselves and to recognize bad situations. But, this thread is about a man who died, not policies regarding children in society.Prankcall wrote:Umm he is actually right into today's society everyone knows not to be alone with kids that are not related to you.It is just the way society is now, probably has alot to do with Priest's being molesters and using the church as a way to exploit their dirty little plans.Lord+Master wrote:WTF?! EXACTLY! While wealthy people, people in power, often do pay off people who threaten them, I don't know of any parent who truly believed their child was molested and just let it slide for money.Prankcall wrote:Also Mcfeedee or whatever your name is your telling me if someone was molesting your kid you would look the other way for some amount of money?! After the 2005 trail, Jackson got the message, and at no time had children in his bedroom outside of his own, most pedophiles (as you can see by repeat offenders after they get out of jail) do it again. Most non-pedophiles dont have children, even their own most of the time sleep in their beds with them. To suggest he was messed up enough to want this, and to suggest those kids didnt suffer some other abuse, because others didnt claim he did is ridiculous. And I hope no kids have to live through what MJ may have put those kids through. Whatever else happened, they will grow up remembering some strange guy asking them to sleep in his bed, in some kind of sick effort to do God knows what and for God knows what motivation. I hope no kids have to live through what MJ may have put those kids through. Unfortunately, that is not the case, because kids will continue to be victimized. Its horrifying you are so quick to defend him, because he made a few songs. I think the people that are able to discount this so readily are living in neverland themselves.
Child abuse used to go unpunished for many years, because it was never brought into the light. Priests were thought to be incapable. Upstanding citizens were thought to be incapable. Unfortunately at times the cases are a witch hunt because of their nature, but thank God, these situations are now able to be brought into the light of day, and hopefully at least some children have been saved from abuse.
I do agree that bashing the guy is in bad taste, except that it may very well serve the purpose of sending a message to all other would be pedophiles, that NO ONE gets away with it. We dont care how much money you have, what you can sing, or how many gloves you wear.

Nothing in you post is fact. As a matter of fact a jury of 12 contradict your view. But you are welcome to believe whatever you want. There is very little evidence of the charges. Yes, the circumstances that Jackson put himself in are indeed odd but not criminal. And I agree with a former poster, if someone abuses your child, if you are any parent worthy of being a parent you DON'T take money if someone hurts your child and if you do you don't deserve to be a parent.
If he is guilty of such things, let God handle it. Just enjoy the gift of music he brought to the world. The man is gone. Let him rest is peace.

I guess I did not make myself clear enough here. Michael Jackson is not an example for blacks. Not at all. Michael Jackson was a model in entertainment for people of ALL races. And that is the whole point.
It is ironic. The same universality that allowed him to appeal to ALL is now being criticized as "not being black enough". Yet, has he acted as a stereotypical black, he would not have been the face that so many whites saw, that allowed many whites to get a glimpse of a real, intelligent black person and bring them from just an esoteric knowledge that blacks are people just like whites, to the idea that well, maybe if my child brings home a black friend its not so bad.
I realize all of that sounds, by today's light very prejudicial and objectionable. However, that is the very point I am making. The world HAS changed. A small part of that was due to Michael Jackson.
That's not even touching on how he directly influenced the music industry.. not just the music, but the way artists are treated, the way things are marketed, etc.
He was strange, no doubt. He had many, many problems. But, who wouldn't given the circumstances. He had not only the burdens of any child star in the seventies, but also add in that racism was still very much a part of American life in ways that many of generations since just don't really understand and the rest of us try not to remember.
