My bad on the inaccurate claim on the park's dimensions. When I hear about the crazy numbers of homeruns hit in the park this year, it automatically makes my mind think the field is smaller. Maybe the park is another case of the Yankees just trying to buy a championship.

The White Sox has picked up two outstanding players in Rios and Peavy, for their September push to the playoffs.
The Tigers will become sex kittens to be used by other American League teams.
Rios may be a good pickup, but I wouldn't count on anything from Peavy until he's back and can prove he's back in form. He's been injured for so long and still has a couple of weeks before he's back.
I could hope for Willis to come back and pitch the same as he did when the Marlins won the World Series too, but that isn't going to happen.

Peavy is now pitching in the Minor Leagues now and is progressing fine. No pain in his ankle, but does need to strengthen his arm.
He'll be ready for duty at the end of August, according to the scouting reports.

I'll be more curious to see how Peavy pitches in the Major Leagues for the first time in his career. He enjoyed dominating the worst offensive division in baseball during his career. Let's wait and see how he does in the AL before crowning the the White Sox's asses <Dennis Green>
Seriously, though, I will be curious to see how he fares in the AL coming off of an injury.
Is Miguel Cabrera hurt? I'd say that is the biggest question as far as the AL Central is concerned. He got drilled on the hand/wrist tonight and if he misses any amount of time, that will be a killer for the Tigers.

In regards to the new Yankee Stadium wall, as I posted earlier, the walls in right are about 2 feet shorter than the old one and the distance in center is shorter because the scoreboard eliminates some curvature. So while the dimensions are basically the same, the wall in center and right has been moved in a few feet. This means that more fly balls will turn into home runs which makes the park more hitter friendly. It is a game of inches and feet after all.
Peavy is coming from one of the most spacious parks in the league in Petco and has to deal with DH's instead of pitchers. Hopefully he'll pitch well, but I expect the switch to be somewhat difficult. Rios is a good pickup, but that fat contract has to make me wonder. Besides, he makes the outfield even more crowded. Podsednick was doing fine. I think this is an unnecessary move for the Sox.
One other thing to worry about for Detroit is the health of Brandon Inge's knees. He's playing through patellar tendonitis and it's really sapping his power. It might also affect his mobility playing at third.

To be fair, Inge is counted on for his defense much more than for his batting ability. There is a reason he's been a career 7-9 slot batter.

See Serbia, Porcello made a rookie mistake. Porcello lucked out this time but when the batter comes charging you never leave the mound. They should always show pitchers the Nolan Ryan vs Robin Ventura brawl, classic.

Actually, Youkilis (don't give a f*ck how you spell his name) was a HUGE dick and decided that on top of being twice Porcello's size, he also needed to throw his helmet at him.
Cabrera got beaned for the second game in a row and he had to come out of the game in the second inning in the middle of his at-bat. Of course there is going to be retribution and of course it's going to be against their best player, which is Youkilisisisls. He figured they wouldn't be able to get a win against Porcello (which they wouldn't have), so why not charge the mound and get him thrown out. They had Lowell to replace him, we had nobody to replace Porcello. Smart move, but also a dick one.
The Sox spanked the Tigers but the ChiSox gained no ground as they couldn't manage to score in 14 innings against the Mariners. Now the Rangers (a game and a half behind Boston for the AL wild card) start a three game series with 'em at home.
Anyone else see that Cubs fan throw a cup of beer on the Phillies outfielder as he was making a catch? Now, had that happened at The Palace at a Pistons-Pacers game, it would have started a riot in the stands, with one of the Pacers charging the crowd.
Yeah, and now the cops are looking for that fan. Nice catch by Victorino though. The funny thing is that that would have been ruled an out based on fan interference according to the rule book.

And if it happened in Philadelphia the fans here would be lauded for their evil, snowball throwing at Santa ways... (see green lazer pointed at Cardinals players a couple weeks ago)
Pedro did okay... he needs to get his stamina back up, he was struggling to finish the 5th at 99 pitches.

I was reasonably impressed with Pedro seeing as it was his first start in the majors since well how long has it been? Needs to work on stamina and a bit better control to keep from getting up to 99 pitches by the end of the 5th but really everything else it looked like the motion on his fastball was as good as ever.
