We need a conquer club foundry week

Post by sinctheassasin »

To increase feedback in the foundry, why don't we try something like this:

for one week, we go all out for foundry awareness. We can have signatures and icons about the foundry, all other forums would be locked for a bit except for the foundry and an emergency needs forum. We could have medals for participation.
In-game, between the map and the log, we could put the first version of the map, as a reminder that maps don't grow on trees. We could have tour guides that would take map noobs around the foundry, spreading mapmaker sunshine.

Of course, the possibilities are endless, and it can't hurt to try ;-)

This would not only raise awareness about the foundry, but of we could pull it off, the productivity would skyrocket, with many new forum posters leaving feedback.

Hm, Shark Week for the Foundry, Eh? Ideally, every week would be Foundry Week---but I know that isn't going to happen!

It'd be an interesting experiment---and really, I'd do something similar with Tournmanents and Plugins/Addons---since those are the other two User-Generated content parts of the website.

So a given Week of the Year, could be filled with one or more Limited Edition Maps, Battle Royales perhaps, Free Speed Games on Designated specific Maps...hm. I'm not sure any of this would increase traffic to the Foundry however. Though perhaps if we celebrate the Foundry, and spotlight it they will come?

(And Ideally we'd have a Tournament Week, Plugin Week...all at various spaced out times during the year...)

Hm.

What would I plug-in week look like? I know you're just thinking out loud, but unless Lack implemented site-wide clickies I'm not sure how it would work?

Thanks, Pimp :)

Plugin week could be spotlighting current and old developers of PLugins, tournaments with special themes ("Clickly Across the USA") -- Battle royale with Special Theme --- information on the most popularly used plugins, how to get/use a plugin guides, etc. Just anything to celebrate the user generated content of Plugins.

Other weeks would work in a similar fashion.

Really, perhpas Plugins isn't the best example. But we could replace Plugins with Clan Week, or something like that which might be more popular, and still generally User-Driven in theme like Tournaments and Maps.

i really think that some sort of medal for participating in each week would be a plus for attracting new people to each area, and the tours of each specific forum, foundry, plugin, etc would probably leave many people curious to go into the forums more often and look in the foundry.

also maybe a redirection screen after a player takes their turn could bring people to a random map in the drafting room, main foundry, or final forge, and if we could find some way for people to have to at least look at the maps in order to take their turns.

also, maybe ads on the side of the screen as people play would help bring people to the foundry, everybody could design their own 150x150 pixel ad, which people could then click on, even if its only during foundry week.

i dont know, as a map maker, i feel extremely passionate about bring newbies and vets into the foundry

The Foundry competition attracted a heck of a lot of people here, perhaps it is time for another one?

I agree, except this time without all the cheating and allegations of cheating.

If someone could explain this competition to me I would appreciate it :D

It might help formulate some ideas for this foundry week.

As I recall, a basic layout was created for the Central America map and there was a competition for new map makers to create the graphics for the map.

One part of the most recent competition had a few members that were accused of cheating the poll. Everything was supposed to be anonymous, but a few users were accused of advertising their submission in private usergroups to gain more votes.
I do not know if the users involved were found to be innocent or guilty of what they were accused of, but I do know that their maps were removed from the competition to get rid of the potential problems.

How about a demo tournament? Get some in-development-but-still-playable maps for limited high-profile games; it would certainly increase awareness, and the players could give useful early feedback to developers.
