I'm thinking it was Principal Skinner, but I'm not sure.

Name two retired characters (i.e., characters who no longer appear in new episodes who were at one time recurring characters.)

Lionel Hutz and Troy McClure. Both played by Phil Hartman, may he rest in peace. He was a funny man.

I'm going to assume that no one knew that, so here's another one. Why did the Simpsons go to Australia?
FYI: The answer to the previous question is the Mississippian National Gaurd and The League of Women Voters.

They went to australia because Bart sent a prank call to some australian guy and then refused to pay the bill or something. Anyway, the US government said the only way to clear it up was for Bart to go over to australia and give a public apology. Thats how (i think) they ended up in australia. Here's a similar one. Why do the simpsons go to Brazil?

What other animated television character appeared (quite fittingly) in a crowd of Homer clones during an episode of the Treehouse of Horror? And how did these clones come about?

Peter Griffen appeared as a deformed Homer clone. And Homer cloned himself by using a magical hammock.

"I call the big one bitey." You didn't say what the pseudonyms were. Dustin Hoffman's was easy but I couldn't remember Michael Jackson's.
