Assassin Game Target Bump

Post by jmcm »

Concise description:
  • Improve assassin games - make it so that YOU have to be the one to take out YOUR target
Specifics:
  • Sometimes in an assassin game a player might overly weaken himself making it easy for an opponent to take him out. If this person is not your target there's not much you can do about it. What if you made the requirement that the assigned player has to eliminate his assigned target in order to win? Then if a player overly weakened himself you could preemptively take the player out and prevent his opponent from winning. Gameplay would then continue with the oponent's target now the eliminated players old target (just like auto-kicked).
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • You can still win an assassin game if someone foolishly weakens himself
  • Suiciding wouldn't ruin the game for everyone

I'm not a fan of this one. I don't think anyone likes the fact that when a player is auto-kicked, the person who had them now has a different target, so I doubt anyone would want to see any more target-changing. Also, if you are very close to eliminating your target, with just a couple of territories left, you shouldn't be punished by someone else knocking them out and therefore changing your target. I think the idea could be abused, which would just cause arguments in the game. And it would really confuse new players. Anyway, that's just my opinion :)
Important Tournament Notice

The data for ALL of my tournaments has potentially been lost. I am working to recover it but as I am away on business all of this week, there will be some delay. Sincere apologies.

I think this sugg is to protect people against the concept of Assassin games. I know it sucks that you can lose a game because someone else does something stupid, but I think that's part of how Assassin games work. It's a risky gamestyle, with good upside (you don't have to kill everyone, just one target) but some risks (You don't control your outcome).

I don't think changing the was Assassin games work improves the gameplay at all. If you don't like it, don't play Assassin.

What about the people who play Fog of War assassin for this reason exactly. You have read the log and be really involved in the game to know how weak another player is. If someone foolishly eliminates a target, but it was someone elses that doesn't mean it's cheating or it's wrong. It's part of the game. I don't know if this suggestion would really be accepted, but it is an interesting idea.

I've actually been on both sides of FoW Assassin games. I was amped up and trying to clear out a bonus area, and accidentally killed someone's last territ, not my target's. I use BOB, and should have been watching and I didn't. I gave a gift to someone else.

I don't know if a the Assassin Game needs this "protection". We could add an option for "Safe Assassin" mode, but then that's basically just regular mode with a floating victory condition. It doesn't provide the riskiness level that a normal Assassin game provides.
