Odd, my photos there usually sell for $12.00 per download. Most 3-d Modelers get around $200.00 per download. Andy suggested I post it in here. Won't do it again. Sorry for upsetting anyone.

No, I don't... I knew he/she was being sarcastic, but I gathered from the general tone that my post was unwelcome. I truly didn't mean to offend anyone. I just knew that 3D maps were starting to be a big thing and thought someone here might be interested. We just hired someone to do some geological maps for a phosphate mining company through my connections there. Current contract is running $2,700.00.

I think there is already a mining map in development here.

Interesting, how often do you get sales?

Unfortunately this seems to be mostly resources for businesses...

As a photographer, I get sales regularly, but because I'm primarily environmental/nature, I have a smaller niche than most. I don't know how often the 3ders sell, but I know one of them makes about $50k/year in sales.

The maps we contracted were 3d illustrative maps of the strata layering both above and below ground for the phosphate mine. We provided them with aerials and drawings and they populated the map with not only the current view, but it morphed to the anticipated views over a 100 year period, with the additions of backfilled ponds, changes to more native vegetation, and animal habitats.

Posting the link is fine, its probably a good site.
It just looked kinda like spam cause you used a referral link instead of just a link to the main page

Sorry, that's a habit... I use that to refer my clients as well. I thought I had backed it all the way out, but I must not have. I usually put in the link that refers people directly to my products on there, but didn't think ya'll would be interested in seeing my photos on this part of the forum, so when I erased back, I didn't erase back far enough. Thanks to whoever fixed it.

It is a reputable site, not one of the nickle and dime sites.

Here is a link to one of the maps that's on the site (not one of my products) that gets $30.00 per download. The artist gets $18-$24 of that depending on if the purchaser goes through his link. This is the one that made me think of the CC map artists.

(I made sure to delete my referral code out of this one)

Do people actually buy those things?
$30 seems like way too much for a simple tan and blue version of the earth...

It's the 3d modeling that they're paying the money for. You get all the separate component files used to create it, etc. It's really useful for architects and interior designers. They purchase packages of furniture for example and can place the pieces in a virtual room, change the textures on them, rotate the views, etc.

Actually, just the .jpeg (the picture of the map) on that site would sell for $12.00 (netting the artist $7.20 - $9.60)... Most sites it would sell for .35 per download (limited use license)

The difference is that this site doesn't fool around with a pile of difference license types. You purchase it and it's yours to use as many or as few times as you want, in whatever medium you choose.

I know that $7.20 doesn't sound like much, but I have about 150 photos on the site. If only 50 of them sell only once each, that's
$360.00. That's 3 months of electric bills for me.

Not really, I'm averaging about $40 per month there so far... But then again, I've only been with them for about 4 months. I've been with a few of the microstocks (Dreamstime, BigStock, 123, etc) for a few years now and only average about $10-$15/month with them.

Ok, I'm curious as to what is being purchased on this site...

Theoretically, could Hasbro decide it wants a Pelopennesian War game or Battle for Iraq game and then go to this site, pay the 12.00 or whatever and use the map and gameplay, ect for the creation of a game that they will make a ton of money on?

From their TOS

"When a priced Product is purchased and downloaded, a non-exclusive royalty-free license is granted to the original Member Buyer only, for the public use of files, for display purposes or commercial applications such as advertising, film, television, print, or software."

regardless this site is primarily for 3d models so throwing up your map there would be stupid, not to mention these maps have zero value outside the CC system.

RjBeals has his Charleston map on the web, but not 100% the same as on CC.

His GreaterCharleston.com map is a totally different map, though it has the same base graphical style as its CC precedent.

I never really looked at the Charleston map, since it was made before I came to the foundry, but =D> to Rj, it is really great.
