This thread is not locked, people can still comment. In my judgement, that was not a case of extreme harrassment. Attila, if you disagree with my call, feel free to PM AndyDufresne. JUST Attilla though, everyone else, please don't flood Andy's inbox.

I'm sorry you had to play against such an unsavory character, there are people like that out there on CC and elsewhere on the internet. Your best option is to leave feedback and move on. If we see a pattern of feedback and complaints against one individual, we'll look into doing something further.

By asking that this player be banned you are asking the site to enforce censorship by your standards. I don't think that chat was abusive, crude yes but not abusive. I am not saying that it is right and I don't agree with using it in here, but by todays standards that is mild.

Everybody has their own standards, and to ask this site to enforce
your standard on everyone else is wrong because you have the tools to enforce your standards with the ignore list.

Has anyone ever called someone else a name in any of your games, or use profanity? My guess is yes. So the next question is, are you only reporting this because it was directed at you?

Yes, there has been bad language, but once you ask someone to not to use bad language, than it becomes abusive. When they continue, it becomes more abusive. Its like rape, once you say no. It should stop. Most people, will stop, others who want to intimidate, humiliate will not stop. They use their language as a weapon.

I am no saint, I don't mind it, but I asked him to keep it to himself, and yes there should be a penalty, not asking for being kicked out or anything, but a warning, a deduction, kicked out of the game he was offensive in, and he continues, I am on ignore from him, but he continues, no penalty, I don't want censorship, but I do want him not to do this to anyone else!

But, there has to be a penalty! People need to think twice! I know men who would curse a mile on a game, but limit themselves, but they do not isolate a player and call them horrendous names. They joke, cuss amongst themselves, but it is "known" and they do not isolate a member.

and there is a penalty you can flame him, which i dont reccommend ignore him, which i highly reccommend and leave negative feedback so that others can see the type of person he is, which is completely up to you

as far as viewing that as assault, I think you are way off....click ignore and its gone and you never see it ever again....

if he continues to harrass people, action will be taken, but this is an open club and forum, so people speak their minds...and keep in mind....even the small percentage that do do this, even smaller percentage would do it in public....just ignore it....its not personal...your just a word on a screen as is he....

One, in your first quote from me, they do not isolate a member, they do not direct abusive language to one person, I may not dress like the 1900's but I do not offend anyone, or isolate them, and humiliate and abuse them. Yes it is most countries standard, except those who, demean women and make them your slaves, please again dissect my paragraph and make it serve your

Where have you been when others have complained about the language used on this site? It wasn't directed at you so you didn't say a word. That sounds like apathy to me. There is another thread in this forum about abusive language, did you show any support for the offended? NO! Sounds like your a little apathic.

Yes it is most countries standards but not all. Obviously your standards are not the same as Kamchatka's, so you want to impose your standards on him. Standards change as time goes by, what you see on tv you would never have seen on tv in the 60's. Regretfully swearing is accepted in todays society.

I have pm'd everyone who has reported abuse, I have checked 22 pages of complaints, only one has gotten any action. Have you? Secondly, I am not apathetic, I will continue a research on this subject. This outside investigation will continue, there are a lot of unhappy, disillusioned members. And standards, playing this game is universal, we agree to it, we agree to the rules.

We all agree to the same rules, some people "ignore" them.

We all agree, in every language, to abide by the rules. So did you!
You can ignore them, and by the way I am young, and know what wars to fight, may not be good at them all the time but don't deserve the abuse I got.

Atilla, you haven't answered my question. Where does it say when you sign up that you must agree to not use foul language? It doesn't. In fact, the ONLY place you cannot use foul language on this site is when giving feedback.

OK, but that's not a "rule" you agree to when signing up on CC and start playing, unlike the multiple account rule where you have to check a box stating you understand. That is something we have in place to justify banning people for truly abusive behavior. I've personally banned two people for abusive language in feedback, and I'm sure there's more from the other mods. Not all of it will show up in the forum however.

If we upheld every complaint, we would become dictators and drive people off. We tend to let the community police itself, and for the most part common sense prevails.

You have only upholded one, and it was racist behavior.I understand, but nobody stands up, everybody backs down, at first i was embarrassed to say anything, he has been on my ignore list for days, but it infuriated me that he can do this! I became angrier and angrier, if he cussed at everyone in the game, no problem, equal cussing, but targeting me because? Makes me on a mission. Excuse me? I personally know of two that have been upheld, maybe more, but two from recent memory. I'm sure you looked through the entire forum, but did you actually read the posts? The titles aren't always changed, and sometimes the threads aren't updated. I just updated one I had forgottten to do. How many complaints have there actually been about abusive language? Not that many I presume. Did you look at the link I posted for Ukranian's feedback? Do you see the difference between that and what went on in your game?

The ignore button represents a passive form of community policing. What the structure of CC suggests is that we can choose who we play with, and who we avoid to play with. All personalities find their place, and only the extreme and disruptive to all are excluded. Kamchatka does not count. I don't discredit your outrage. It is legitimate, and I acknowledge it. And I know a way you will never ever have to be offended by Kamchatka again. Why isn't that good enough? Who are these future people who may be offended by these conventional cuss words in a chat room on an online board game and why do they matter so much that the community needs to be broken?

What you seem to want is for the CC authority to take on some sort of paternal moral policing role. What morals? Apparently the morals of whoever can get the most people together to shout that they feel offended and abused. Seriously, I can't find any more solid proposal made here or anywhere related to this issue than that. Your idea is: I am outraged, I insist it be acknowledged by all. I don't want you to subvert the workings of the ignore button. That might mean I'll go from playing a game where I care about what my peers think about me to playing a game where I have to bend to arbitrary rules imposed by arbitrary authority. I spent hours on the 22 pages, and you upheld racist comments, which is ok, everything else ignore, you know what, from this lesson bad language is accepted, call anybody what you want, because I disagree with you I have gotten pm's cussing at me, using fowl language, everyone told me you all (moderators)don't care, fowl language is accepted, but calling people by racist language is unacceptable, when someone calls me a C*nt, which they have, White trash, A N*zi, when I am neither of them I will call you, and you can tell me that it is not abusive. Everyone said there was nothing I can do, and they are right, I am ashamed for thinking that normal people can see what is right and wrong. I have never complained before, when called the previous, but it has become the norm, and its wrong, no one can make it right, no matter what argument you make.

i think that you need to grow up and stop pissing and moaning and sending pm's to god and everybody to stick up for you. either grow up or play with only your friends. or go to microsoft's game zone and play there where is you curse they will ban you. but getting pm's from somebody i've never played (or don't remembere playing) and then getting more and more is insane. maybe i should start a string asking that people who send spam to people that they don't even know get banned from the site.

i agree that the ignore button doesn't work. i put you on ignore and i still get crap emails/pm's from you.

I commend you Atilla for sticking up for what you believe in and am sorry if you're getting ridiculous PM's. Please remember the median age on this site is that of a high-schooler, so keep that in mind when you're expecting people to behave like rational adults. Lack is not the principal and we don't wash the kids mouths out with soap or send them to detention. It would be impossible to police foul language on this site to appease all those who may be offended by it.
