2 years ago is just that - 2 years ago. Who knocked the Pens out 2 years ago? Who knocked the Wings out last year? Who's going to knock either team out this year?
2 point is 2 years ago is that you're talking trash about the Flyers like the Caps have something over the Flyers. The Caps have done nothing to prove they're better than the Flyers. if anyone has a right to brag its the Flyers. i always find it amusing how there's more Flyer fans than Cap fans when they play in DC.
Richards Carter Gagne Briere Pronger Timonen Giroux Hartnell Coburn
You never heard of Jeff Carter or Briere?????? the reason why i never named players before because your initial statement shows its a waste of time having an intelligent discussion with you if you even know the rosters of the teams.
are all top tier NHL players The caps only have a couple if you count green and Backstrom.
Just because you dont know the Flyers roster doesnt mean its not superior. it just means you're not an educated hockey fan. you probably only know the names of the players promoted on the TV set. Hockey is not basketball where if you Kobe or Lebron it means you have the best team. Hockey is a team sport where depth is more important htan having the best player.
Richards/Hartnell/Briere/Gagne/Carter/Giroux (future star)/JVR (stud rookie)/ Powe (great role player)/Lapierre (great role player) - forwards
Pronger/Timonen/Coburn/Carle/Parent - defense. The Flyers can play about 47 minutes with either Pronger or Timonen on the ice. Do you understand how huge this will be during the playoffs?
Emery - looks like a stud in goal.
This lineup is deeper and w/o any holes. from top to bottom its the best lineup in the east. in hockey you win with depth, defense, 2-3 scoring lines, goaltending, and great role players. The flyers have all of this. the Caps are a nice team but don't have the depth to seriously contend. They remind me of the Flyers during the late 90's when they had Lindros but not a complete team to back him up.
looking good tonight gannable, but i didn't realize symeon varlamov was on contract with the flyers... he just gave that puck to richards for the trick...
caps are one of the top teams in the east it just annoys me what the NHL has become.
they try to promote it like the NBA. but in hockey its really not about having the "best" player. look at detroit, new jersey, colorado, dallas of the past 10 years, all those teams had great star players but they had deep forward lines and a great defensive unit with great role players. i just see the caps a notch below philadelphia, pittsburgh, and even boston.
another thing about last night's game thats complete BS
the endless parade of power plays. its a joke.thats not hockey. i really hate what bettman has done to the league. he's completely destroyed aggressive play.
Chicago vs. Detroit tomorrow night baby! Let's make it a little more interesting...Blackhawks win and you have to change your avatar to this for one week:
Red Wings win and I'll change my John Locke avatar for one week to Cameron Frye from Ferris Bueller's Day Off:
I don't expect to beat you guys this early in the season but it's just for fun...c'mon man! It's just for one week.

It's 1-1 in the 2nd - so I'll say DEAL.
Sadly for me, being here in Texarkana, I can't watch the game.
The Wings, who already are going to be hurting for scoring this year after losing Hossa, Samuelsson and Hudler, just lost Franzen for the next 4 months to a torn ACL.
tell me who in the conference has a better defensive unit and more forward depth than the Flyers? you cant because you probably only know the big stars that Gary Bettman promotes
I'm actually from philly, so I all the games are on TV here, and I am not saying they are bad, but they aren't as good as the pens. The penguins are a younger and more skilled team, and they will be for a while.

no chance for NJ ever again ( worst team to watch play ever )
stanley cup winner = hopefully Montreal but i can go back to my dreams so i'll say Pittsburgh again
mvp = ovechkin
eastern conference = pittsburgh
western conference = chicago ( as long as it's not detroit again )
so who you guys see to win Vézina and Maurice Richard trophies this year ?
not sure about vezina... but probably luongo, i haven't been watching much hockey these last 2 weeks (research proposal), but luongo is always solid.
as for richard, you have to give it to ovechkin. i don't care what you say about every other player in the league... but unless someone else puts up 500+ shots this season, they don't have a shot.
The Red Wings get a rematch with the Avalanche this Saturday, will the result be any different? This time the are playing in Denver, not in Detroit, I wonder if that makes a difference. I'm not sure if Serbia can handle two straight losses to the Avalanche this early in a season.
