The reason the farms are laid out that way is so that the human territories are in group of two. Your suggestion would made one group of 2 into a group of 1, and two other groups into a group of 5.

Izmayil will be taken in most games anyways seeing as it is one of the few territories divided among people. (unless it starts neutral, which it won't in almost all games that are not 2 or 6 player. And even in those, the chances of it being neutral are small)

As for there being a lot of bonuses in one area, neutrals can always be adjusted to balance that out. I would rather like to keep the territories without farms in groups of 2.

I took the poll down. Right now, all that I've heard is to fix the pink clouds, which is not worth a separate update. Don't have much to do without many problems coming in that I need to fix.

Can we get this map to the Advanced Draft stage, please?

Like the texture and overall feel. 3 suggestions-

1.) put a drop shadow on the land to stand it up from the background.
2.) darken the background to help in contrasting it from the land.
3.) The borders could be thinner.

I think the yellow is very bright and needs to be dulled a bit <- personal preference thoough.
Otherwise yes, this could be stamped for Drafts. Good work thus far. :)

I'd agree that the yellow is a bit bright on this one, I'd prefer one of the darker ones you posted in this thread.

From a gameplay standpoint it seems to me that there will be a great advantage in going first as you'll have first opportunity to attack your adjacent opponents before they can get to you.

SAT and some other tests that conveniently were placed on the day after are taking up my time atm. I'll get an update up when the weekend starts.

So I was doing random stuff, deciding to add more to the "farm" feel of the map:

Then I realized how much that does not look like a map. So I decided to take a minimalist approach for this version, plus a reworking of the gameplay to follow.

The stars are just temporary to show the starting points. I realized that in an 8 player game, the person who goes last will often be eliminated before he has the opportunity to take a turn. The neutrals can be adjusted to keep the gameplay balanced, although I tried to even it out as well as I could by moving around borders to make sure there are 2 territories between each starting point.

On a gameplay note, is it possible to set a starting troop amount for a starting point?

1) Did you scrap the farm idea? I liked that.

2) The other issue with starting territories: Simferpol has one border, Kyiv has 6. You might have to adjust that a bit.

Colors are really great in this version.

Yes, I was going for minimalism in this version to make it look more like a map. The concept is still the exact same except the starting territories do not give bonuses. I felt that all the farms were just cluttering up the map.
2) The other issue with starting territories: Simferpol has one border, Kyiv has 6. You might have to adjust that a bit.
If the xml is capable of having different starting troops for nonneutral territories, it should be fine. Otherwise, I can put some varying autodeploys on some territories.

On a random note, what should I put in the bottom right of the map? I was thinking to simply have some text about Ukraine or a poem. But I'm open to ideas. I'm going to make the bonus box better in the next version. I just didn't want any more delay for this one.

If all territories are neutral execpt 8 (with the start) use

<position>
<territory start="X">region name</territory>
</position>

(X=number of troops)

e.g. stars start with 5 troops

Code: Select all

<positions>
<position>
<territory start="5">Chernivtsi</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Luts'k</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Kyiv</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Kharkiv</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Mariupol</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Mykolayiv</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Izmayil</territory>
</position>
<position>
<territory start="5">Simferopol</territory>
</position>
<positions>

1 troops per territory, and there are only 8 starting territories.

Very nice, good work =D>

Considering that this is a conquest map, please add SP and neutral values on your map asap ;)
In this way i can do some math with your values and ,if everything is ok, i think you're ready for the main foundry

Have a nice day

Kiev was very hard to balance. I tried to add troops to the starting points that are in the middle of everything, and add neutrals between regions to keep too many of them from attacking each other.

1. What if I increase the neutrals on Uman and Kirovohradska and reduce the neutral on Odessa? Just came to me after I uploaded the image.
2. On the final map, do I need any indication as to which are the starting points? (I'll come up with something more elegant than the temporary stars if yes)

I don't know if the foundry has rules, but I say no. Who cares, you start where you start, whether it was coded or random.

Actually, I kind of like the stars. Just make sure they are big enough to fit the arny numbers in and you'll be fine. Just remove the circles from underneath the stars! ;)

Good job sso far, youlve come a long way!
