Until the 1800's, the form "ſ" was used in certain cases where today "s" would be used. for example, "Rhode Iſland", "Caſtine", "Maſſachuſetts", etc. It's a small point, but if we're trying to go for the late 1700's look, it will be helpful. However, I don't think it's 100% required, considering the confusion it might cause, especially among those to whom English is a second language.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_s is an article about the subject.
http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/religion/f0503a.jpg is an example from 1780. Note especially the words "essential", "possessing", etc. Also note "protecting", which uses a ct ligature.

For typographic ligatures, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typographic_ligature

jefjef - I was thinking the same thing... I'm hesitant to do so because I think it might look out of place... one way to find out...

cubs - Hmm... that's really interesting, i didn't know any of that. To think, we could have had one of those cool ß things the Germans' have. But yeah, I think it might only confuse players if its there as it kind of confused me as well. But an interesting idea none-the-less.

An ezsett isn't ſ ;) I recommend you do, but if you don't feel the need it's not a big deal.

As for going smaller, I don't see why minimap size is a problem. Charleston has a tiny font…

Well, I mean they're similar in function... that being that have something to do with the letter s. It's a stretch but... :P

I'm tempted to add it in... just need to figure out if the font will support it. OK... I just tried it and it looks too strange to go on with I think. I don't think anyone would figure it out.

As for the font size... I think I'm going to leave it. Charles Town is the same as the rest I believe...

Can you make it look like the mini map is printed on the parchment? Or better yet DRAWN like it was a historical map?

That large map font seems disappointing to me. Boring. Bland.

I can toy with it... maybe if I got rid of the drop shadow. I'll see what I can do.

As for the large map font, yeah, it is bland. Not much i can do though really. The curvy font isn't readable on the small. I think I can do two separate fonts for each map... but I dunno, it might be a little weird like that. Can someone familiar with the rules let me know if such a thing would be allowable?

Yeah... what was I looking at? I think I was expecting something vastly different and just gave it a glance over. Well, they're definitely different. I might go for it then and do two different fonts.

The legend does not fit the map at all. I don't see the issue with having it simply over the sea. The burnt paper just does not fit with the style of the map.

Yeah, the burnt paper doesn't fit. Honestly why have the mini-map at all? The colonies aren't giving bonuses that really require a mini-map, do they? If the mini map is gone you can play with the size of the colony/army box and maybe put the rules into the bottom corner. It's worth looking at, adding something else graphically in different spots with the mini-map missing see if you like something.

Hmm... any specific ideas as to what I could put in besides a minimap? Because I have to show which groups of terrs. are colonies and show how much they're worth. Maybe I could list them out, but that would take up a ton of space. I think the repetitive color scheme makes it necessary.

I might just drop the parchment because I didn't see a whole lot wrong with the minimap hovering over the ocean... plenty of maps do it. I'll play with it but I think I'm just going to go back to the way it was. After all, these aren't supposed to be absolutly perfect geographic renderings, they're games.

First off... let it be known you can change all the text at once by linking and doing so with shift. I just saved about 2 hours.

Could just find a way to put the names of the colonies on the map itself, low opacity underneath. Could be a way to reintegrate the old loopy font back onto the map.

I think the main thing here is that the mini-map is taking up a very large portion of the map and has a singular function of telling us the names of the colonies.

I thought about doing that back in the drafts stage but it ran into problems as some of the smaller colonies have long names, for example, New Hampshire or New Jersey, Rhode Island, Connecticut or Delaware. It was that problem that led me to do the mini-map.

Hmm... I didn't think that you could do that. But since we can, then I'm gonna stick with the original font for the large.

Out of curiosity and if anyone knows, do a lot of people play on the large or the smaller map?

I play large because its just easier for me to see, plus bigger is better!

I play small, because the large maps don't fit my monitor. I have poor resolution, only goes up to 1024 x 768 :(

Also I believe it has been said that the majority of people use the small map...

Ok, made some slight changes.

Added glow to the text, I think it helps readability and I really just have come to like how it looks on the small map.

I fixed the !@#$ing threes. It's been brought up a number of times and I've forgotten every one of those times. So they are now clean and crisp and readable. In my 3 changing, I changed all the numbers while I was at it.

Anyway.

That's it.

OK. Why is the 2 so much larger than the 3 in the legend? And then smaller in the other map? Is it just an optical illusion?

I think it's the font. In some fonts, numbers are different sizes. Usually 1,2,4,7 are smaller in height than 3,5,6,8,9.
