I got haven't had TV for 5 going on 6 years now...best move I ever made.Nobunaga wrote:...Has anybody else noticed this?
... Tonight's Law & Order episode was subtle, a girl OD'd. The cop finds the pill bottle, it's Oxycotton, very clearly shown for a good 2 seconds, in large letters.
... Anybody who pays attention knows what/who that was aimed at.
... Then the CSI episode had a bit of an anti-gun rant thing going on. Laurence Fishburne's character hesitated rather long before accepting a gun to go in pursuit of the bad guy. He said, "The first recorded shot of an explosive projectile was in Japan, 4th century. It was a small hand cannon designed specifically to take life".
... Well, Japan, in the 4th century, was a barbarous place with no such technology. Also, the first use of gunpowder to fire projectiles was in China, centuries later. But I digress.
... That bit on "How I Met Your Mother", dude got sick in Canada, got treatment. He says "They forgot to charge me".
... CSI Miami and the cast hanging out in the "Community Garden" during the final scene, completely unrelated to the episode.
... Give me a break. I hear enough of this shite through the day already.
... (and no, I don't necessarily think this a conspiracy developed in the back offices of the White House).
...

... I enjoy the new NCIS, but I don't care for that small woman.muy_thaiguy wrote:About the only TV I watch are sports (the mountain), NCIS (and LA), and Dirty Jobs.
Got kind of tired of old favorites, mainly when I was younger get replaced by PC crap.
Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry for Ed, Edd & Eddy, Camp Lazlo (what the hell!?)
Scooby Doo slowly replaced by A Pup Named Scooby Doo (original was better quality, even in the art department)
Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog (kind of a Power Rangers meets King Arthur) ousted by newer and crappier versions of Power Rangers
My childhood shows are all but gone.

I must have left my stupidity filter on, I completely missed that part about a hand cannon.Nobunaga wrote:... Hand cannon.MeDeFe wrote:"Explosive projectile" could also be, for example, an arrow with a package containing some explosive. Just light the fuse and shoot the arrow towards the target.
... My point is, some dipsh*t writer made up this farce for the express purpose of moaning about guns to us.
... And probably millions of Americans will now be walking around for the rest of their lives believing that fantasy about the Japanese gun.

so you'd prefer your scriptwriters to be utterly bereft of anything even akin to an opinion, political or otherwise?Nobunaga wrote:... ... No, but it is constant now. And I see this sh*te on PBS Kids as well (son watches), and that irritates the hell out of me.khazalid wrote:so you'd prefer your scriptwriters to be utterly bereft of anything even akin to an opinion, political or otherwise?Nobunaga wrote:... it's not like it is the BBC... these are commercial networks with no obligation in that department soever.

... I do not want their political support for a party's agenda, theirs or mine, to be slipped into every other damned show on the television. CSI - Find the clues, do the tests, arrest the bad guy. Insert ample portions of action, plot twist and drama. The end.
...
It is not a conspiracy in the back offices of the white house, but there is a HUGE issue with product placements and, yes, insertion of various political views.Nobunaga wrote:

Dirty Jobs was great at first, but now its starting to get a bit repetetive. Same with "Bizarre foods".muy_thaiguy wrote:About the only TV I watch are sports (the mountain), NCIS (and LA), and Dirty Jobs.
Not something I watch all the time, just when there really isn't much else on.PLAYER57832 wrote:Dirty Jobs was great at first, but now its starting to get a bit repetetive. Other than that, our TV is pretty much tuned to hunting and fishing shows on the Outdoor Channel, courtesy of my husband and one son.
Every now and then I get to tune in a Disney show, but that is about it....
This one.got tonkaed wrote:What about the show "V" which has basically been pointed out by some as being nothing but negative allusions to the Obama administration.
Entertainment is always going to have claims on the issues of the day, because thats what people are often interested in or can be hooked with. If the allusions bother you significantly, its probably worth considering what it is about your views you feel uncomfortable with being criticized.
