Well if you class Coreldraw as being an equivalent of MS Paint, then i guess you'd be right. And this map is not the equivalent of Rail Africa, two entirely different maps, sometimes different maps need different treatment, and i am not as good an artist as others in the foundry who have all those wonderful PS skills.natty_dread wrote:I like the idea, but I agree with the.killing about the graphics - they're just not cutting it IMO.
When I look at maps in the main foundry, I've used to seeing top notch graphics. Things that please the eye... this map is just estetically not working. Many of the bonus areas and their colours look like they were drawn with MS paint.
I'm not saying this couldn't become a great map, I'm just saying it's going to need a whole lot of work on the graphics department.
Cairns, the graphics you did on Rail Africa were great, so I know you can do better than this.

I like the graphics because they are not pretty - I love P/Rome and that isnt a pretty mapcairnswk wrote:Thanks .44the.killing.44 wrote:Sorry cairns, you can do better in an idea and your graphics. Vote no.

Shhh.... dont give him any ideas...Captain_Scarlet wrote:

Well, the stands... the colour gradients on them kinda clash with my eyes. Try to find better colours for them, or some kind of texture...cairnswk wrote:What would be helpful is if someone indicated the areas that need improving.
Please do no say the stands.

Natty, this is a representation of the famour Lords Cricket Ground in London.natty_dread wrote:Well, the stands... the colour gradients on them kinda clash with my eyes. The Media Centre looks sloppy eh?! Go tell that to the Brits. The media centre just happens to be that shape and once again is representational of Lords Ground. At that size, i don't know if a texture will be seen well enough to improve it any, but i will try.The media center and the ellipse-shaped area below it look just sloppy. Try to reshape them and perhaps also give them some kind of texture.
What detail would you give them at the size, and please don't say handles because handles would only create graphic that might be misconstrued as impassables or something else. For the most part, much of the detail on the pints can't be seen as it is covered by army circles or text. Then those beer pints... I think they could use some detail.
Once again the tent-like things are reprentational of the Pavillion Roof tops at Lords. Normally they would sit atop the Pavillion where those Cricketers sit, but i have had to place them atop small scorebards for real estate reasons and lots of cricketers would recognise that those flags are the colours of the Lords flags.Lastly, those tent-like things with the red/yellow flags on top... you've got to do something with those.

I supported Poison Rome…Captain_Scarlet wrote:I like the graphics because they are not pretty - I love P/Rome and that isnt a pretty mapcairnswk wrote:Thanks .44the.killing.44 wrote:Sorry cairns, you can do better in an idea and your graphics. Vote no.

To be honest, I just don't like the theme, idea, let alone execution. Maybe it's because I'm American and don't watch nor know about cricket. The gameplay just seems so all over the place and, once again maybe this is because I have no clue what the setup of a cricket game (match?) is, I can't for the life of me figure out what's going where, why, and how. I just can't honestly say that I support the map in really any aspect, besides the legend, which looks muy cool.cairnswk wrote:So .44, if this were your map, what would u do to improve it?the.killing.44 wrote:I supported Poison Rome…Captain_Scarlet wrote:I like the graphics because they are not pretty - I love P/Rome and that isnt a pretty mapcairnswk wrote:Thanks .44the.killing.44 wrote:Sorry cairns, you can do better in an idea and your graphics. OK thanks for being totally honest, and "all over the place"...because basically that's what happens in cricket with the ball.the.killing.44 wrote:To be honest, I just don't like the theme, idea, let alone execution. Hehe, I'm a baseball player, so I could figure that much out. But I think you just outlined pretty well why I don't think this will work well as a map.cairnswk wrote:OK thanks for being totally honest, and "all over the place"...because basically that's what happens in cricket with the ball.the.killing.44 wrote:To be honest, I just don't like the theme, idea, let alone execution. It's not quite as fixed as advancing the ball to the opposing end's goal line through physical tactics and manouvering.
OK, well if' you're a baseball player, then you might understand why i think this map would be a success and have enough "randomness" to parallel the game...the.killing.44 wrote:...

"'all over the place'...because basically that's what happens in cricket with the ball."
It could just be me, but I'd like our maps to be organized. By this I don't mean they have to be strict in terms of, say, "political divisions here, put some lines here, don't do that because it's slightly out of place." But rather than looking at the map and trying to figure out what's going on shouldn't give me a headache. It's this same reason that makes me not want to see many, if any, sport maps on CC, because the map is most likely trying to follow what happens in the game—randomness. There is no set thing that the ball will do in basically any team sport and a lot of individual sports. There are no set divisions, recorded actions from one battle or event, etc. off of which we can model the map. And thus I don't think random actions make for a good game board as the mapper tries to follow the random actions of the game with lines that go "all over the place."
My 2¢ about maps.

My problem is more with the core idea that you want to create a map that is as random as the game. I just think that creating a map anticipating every situation cannot work coherently. The thing is, you just explained very well how it works and why everything works. But I have to say that the majority of CC would not be familiar with the rules and going-ons of cricket. Thus, you either have to explain it to everyone (via the map), or it will just seem like garbled lines. Obviously, there is not enough room on the map to explain it all.cairnswk wrote:OK, well if' you're a baseball player, then you might understand why i think this map would be a success and have enough "randomness" to parallel the game...
Mmm i don't agree with you, but that's your opinion and i respect you for it.the.killing.44 wrote:My problem is more with the core idea that you want to create a map that is as random as the game. It does sound like fun, after you've explained everything. However, I don't think it is possible to execute this through the way CC's maps are made: lines, circles, and labels.

Well that was very on-topic, I must say. You have a very good right to your opinion, as you have proven. I'll continue to follow the map and see how it goes.cairnswk wrote:Mmm i don't agree with you, but that's your opinion and i respect you for it.the.killing.44 wrote:My problem is more with the core idea that you want to create a map that is as random as the game. Let's close this off now and get back to topic.

Thanks Andy for your vote of confidence after 15 Versions. you have superb timing as always.AndyDufresne wrote:I'm familiar with cricket (I've played it a couple of times), but I can't say I'd really want to play it in Conquer Club. Kind of reminds me of Seamusk's Hurling map I think it was.
