Once a map is totally approved...

Post by fumandomuerte »

The CC Map Foundry should ask the creator of the map for the original corel, photoshop, etc., files to make a database for any -if needed- retouch in the future.
That would make revamping easier :)
What do you think?

That is something that has been considered - I'd be interested to know people's thoughts though...

There's a difference between Beta and Fully-Live maps - would you make a distinction between the two in terms of "totally approved"?

I was under the impression that there was some rule about reproducing graphics without the owner's consent.
Something to do with the Computer Misuse Act I think...don't take my word for it, Benn knows this stuff better than I do - send him your angry PM's!

I don't think you ought to go so far as to require it, but asking for the file once the map goes to beta, and keeping them all in some private repository on the CC website, is a pretty good idea. At beta, because if the map just needs a few tweaks, author existence failure should not, in most cases, prevent a map from staying on the site.

The highlighted part resumes my idea :)
There could be, of course, the sign of some kind of contract where the author agrees that CC can use the files. If the author decline the authorization then CC must choose the hard way whe trying to retouch/fix a map: call for a revamp contest.

My 2.5 cents.

It would be interesting to see what ConquerClub would do if a mapmaker withdrew their permission for a map to be used

You can't, that's the whole point of the Copyright Agreement…

Er - no that's not actually true...

Or enforceable by any contract.

And the original maps gave permission only for lackattack to use it, I can't be bothered searching for it. They voluntarily donated the map to lack, and they could withdraw their permission if they wished.

All maps on Conquer Club are under the copyright agreement, just so misinformation isn't spreading.

I was under the impression that the original 2 or 3 additional maps were not?

EDIT: On a side note, it could be deemed the conditions of the contract are unfair, but of course, if someone really wanted to take their map down one would have to wonder why
