Printing Help needed.

Post by The Neon Peon »

This isn't very Map related, but it is the only place in here where I think I can get an answer from people that know about this stuff.

For a school project, a friend and I photoshoped a poster of 2200x1400 px (approximately). Now we are going to print it at Kinko's, but there are a few things I need to know first.
1. What file type do I save it as?
2. What do I save it on (flash drive, cd, etc)?
3. What is the best way to make sure the colors don't get messed up?

I'd appreciate a quick response, seeing as we will be printing tomorrow.

My best suggestions is likely:

1: .png
2: flash drive should be fine
3: No real trick... I did take a really big map cut the image into 4 equally sized smaller images. Worked out pretty well, but you don't likely want to tape together a poster... The cost is gonna be nasty too. :?

Everything RedBaron has said is fine. Also you want you PPI (pixel per inch) to be at least 150 to ensure the print quality is good. If you are printing a poster you should work with it in inches some other metric other than pixels.

If you have a standard 70 PPI you 2200x1400 px image will print at (approx) 31x20inchs, while at 150 PPI it will be smaller at (approx) 14x9inches.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

when creating something for print, it's always best to use the CMYK color gamut instead of RGB, as CMYK replicates what actual inks can do, and not your LCD pixels.
