doubles strategy help/question

From what I've seen of doubles games and talking to friends it seems a lot of strategy in team games is to dump all troops on one player. Personally I hate the idea of this strategy as it doesn't feel anything like a team game, but it exists, so instead of complaining about it, I would prefer advice on how to beat it. We tried making a run at the weak player and eliminating them asap, but it doesn't seem to have worked all that well. Any other suggestions/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Firstly play automatic rather than manual deploy, secondly play chained rather than unlimited forts, problem will then not arise.

Yeah, I had thought about that as a solution to the problem. I know I'm greedy, I just want things my way.
