Additional wisdom is going to cost you, so open your hearts and your wallets. Can I get an AMEN?
I believe in the same things you do, which means the evangelicals say I'm going to hell, and the hardcore atheists say I'm a superstitious moron.RenegadePaddy wrote:Moderate catholic
Moderate, in that I believe evolution (hell, look at the story of creation, and tell me, how else would you explain cosmology, evolution etc to a society that would think you were mad if you started to mentioncells!) etc, and see science and religion as aiming for the same goals.
They fit rather well together, when taken with a certain amount of research over blind faith. (eg, knowledge that 40 days and 40 nights are not literal time periods, but an old coloquialism for "a very long time")

Those atheists (not all) need to take their heads out their arses, and those evangelicals need a swift education befoer they spread any more lies.DIRESTRAITS wrote:I believe in the same things you do, which means the evangelicals say I'm going to hell, and the hardcore atheists say I'm a superstitious moron.RenegadePaddy wrote:Moderate catholic

I really hate the general ignorance towards religion - too many say "well, thats what it says here" and point at either religious texts without understandig their history, or at science without understanding its processes and limitations.

I LOVE arguing about religion, and performing the occasional double-360-backflip-troll, but that apart...btownmeggy wrote:I'm an atheist. When agnostic friends ask me what makes me take such a certain, hard-line stance, I tell them that I not only don't believe in a god, I'm opposed to the idea of a god. I am morally opposed to religion, especially at the point that religions become exercises of faith and conformity rather than just guiding philosophies for a happy life.
However, I'd never attack a person for their religion, and I generally try to avoid most debates on religion, as pointless argument is contrary to MY guiding philosophy for a happy life.
I admit that some of my beliefs concerning the nature of the universe involve a certain degree of faith, especially in the realm of theoretical physics, but I am perfectly willing to abandon any of them once something more plausible comes along.
