Are tournament rules approved and monitored? [Closed]

Post by 72o »

One of Colt45's crappy tournaments, The Apprentice, that I signed up for before I realized that Colt45 is the worst tournament organizer ever, seems to be a haphazard bunch of whatever Colt45 wants it to be.

I happened to be on the team he wasn't on, so all of our players were "fired" without a clear explanation of the "firing" process. I beat him in a game, but he wasn't "fired". I lost a game, and of course I was "fired". Now apparently his entire team gets a medal, because they survived the random "firing" squad?

If this is an approved tournament format, can I just create tournaments where I "randomly" select who wins and loses?

My distaste for Colt45 is utter and well-documented, so perhaps I'm not being objective. If someone could look into this and make a determination as to whether or not this is a legit tournament that Colt45 will receive 2 medals for, I'd appreciate it.

First, you should use the member's actual name and not a made-up one (and don't flame them).

colton24 has not won the tournament, so there is no guarantee that he would receive two medals for it. When you have a tournament dispute, the best course of action is to post the complaint in the thread and then PM a director to look into the situation.

I'm pretty sure I explained the firing process. Although I haven't updated the first post yet so it doesn't show.

This is a good example of how not to run a tournament.

Colton, I would suggest not playing in your own tournaments unless you have a definite way of determining wins/losses.

And 72o, you know you don't like Colton, you have seen his posts around the site, why would you even sign up?

I mentioned this in the OP - I signed up for this before I realized that was a bad idea. I had only been a member for a month or so (this tournament has been "ongoing" since August), and hadn't been on the forums enough to know the deal with colton.

I still think that a tournament organizer should have legitimate, objective criteria for determining eliminations in their tournament, that can be spelled out if called upon by a tournament moderator.

If the tournament organizer can't even post coherently, and update posts accurately, they shouldn't be allowed to host tournaments.

My .02, YMMV, etc. etc.

I'm not a fan of colton and find him distasteful but reading the first post it says
from each team that loses in the two games that will be played each week 1 person will be fired. the fired person will be determined by either who was eliminated first or who the team decides to vote out by pming thier votes to me.
Now I'm not sure when one method is used and when the other method is used but it seems that when a team loses it will lose a member and that member will either be selected by vote or by who was eliminated first. Now I think the first eliminated idea is silly as sometimes its the best teammate (the one who passes his armies to his partners for use) who gets eliminated early but the method of elimination is clear.

Sure, it's clear, but it's not being followed. Later in the thread I pointed out that he had eliminated 7 people (5 of which were on my team) even though there had only been 4 rounds. He responded something that makes no sense (one of them was a mistake???). I've never gotten a PM to vote someone out, and you'd think I would since my team is so horrible that we lost 7 out of 8 players, while a team that includes colton only lost 2 or 3.

I did some homework. I posted this in the tournament thread, NightStrike, and sent you a PM, hopefully I've followed protocol enough to get this looked at. Looks like a slam dunk to me.

Okay, here is my attempt to reconstruct colton's thought process when eliminating players in this tournament. I did a game finder search for all tournament games for this info.

Here is colton's current list of team status.

Apex:-FULL
1.darwin18-fired
2.shortcake710-fired
3.72o-fired
4.3LIXBlack-fired
5.anixmo-fired
6.ask me2
7.Cubs24-fired
8Conan29-fired
Ares:-FULL
1.U.S.A!!
2.Jobiwan
3.Colton24
4.shoop76-fired
5.kumandgo13-fired
6.Jefreus
7.LFCmadcap -fired
8.Wellspring

So at one point in the tournament, colton lost 3 straight games. 2 of those games were the only one that round, yet he and his partner miraculously survived the gallows both times. The other one was a 1v1 in which I beat him. He survived that too, of course.

Wow, nice research. I will be interested to follow the outcome of this.

Assuming all your research is correct, I am now wondering if the problem is that Colton is doing what it takes to win, or (and I think this is highly likely) he is just confused/overwhelmed with running the tourny and it is a mess.

Yeah, I'd bet on the latter. Although I think it's pretty obvious he doesn't want to be eliminated himself. If he was eliminated, though, the tourney would probably be abandoned, so I'm not sure which is better.

Interesting research. I'm wondering if Colton could post a response as I'd be interested in seeing the methodology used in the eliminations. The first post laid out some pretty clear guidelines that don't appear to be being followed.

Well, the investigation has been going for several days now with no update. My guess is that colton now abandons the tournament, and nothing happens to him.

I'm giving even money odds. Anyone want to take that bet?

I'd throw a hundo on it. No, it's not within the rules. But if I get caught, I'll just abandon the bet the way colton is abandoning the tournament.

Making jokes about it again

I know that there are some people that can make you frustrated, but very likely it will be difficult to change them by putting some remarks in here
I hope some people will look into it and take the needed steps, but in the end that specific tournament will not turn into a good tournament anymore

I hope you get over it and will enjoy other tournaments O:)

No, I don't really care about that tournament, or any tournament for that matter. I'm sure that by sheer volume I will eventually have to win at least one. :D

I really just want the tournament directors to have the ability to have greater control over what can/cannot pass for a tournament, and possibly institute some rules on tournament organizer privileges, so that people can't create numerous poorly run tournaments if they have already abandoned several.

Well, that's good news, I guess. Does colton receive any sort of reprimand for this? I mean, he's abandoned numerous tournaments, and it's not fair to people that sign up and participate to have him waste their time like this.
