Giant Hornets Headed for Britain?

Post by vtmarik »

http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007080651,00.html

From the article:
SWARMS of giant hornets which wipe out honey bees are set to invade Britain — due to global warming.

The 1.8 inch monster insects have already devastated bee populations in huge areas of France.

Now they are expected to cross the Channel and swoop on British honey bees who are just a quarter of their size.

The Asian hornets, with a three-inch wingspan, can also attack humans with their stings. Their bite has been compared to a hot nail entering the body.

Dude, I thought killer bees were bad, but you guys are really screwed.

Has nobody seen the National Geographic special "Hornets From Hell?"

Where's the panic, where's the freakout?

Oh wait, I forgot. It's Britain. You guys don't freak out over every little thing.

That's America's shtick. Got it.

Why would a people, who eat Toad-in-the-Hole and Bubbly & Squeak, be afraid of a few insects :P

major bumpage, that immigrant comment was quite funny

ah well, it all evens out. if global warming does cause this, it wont be long before global warming stops the warm air coming from the Caribbean to britain, which will freeze the kingdom and kill all these hornets! then we have a freezing problem :P

These last two days the weather was actually pretty good here. 5-10° C, sunshine, not bad at all. Actually pretty good compared to what it was like before.

if we just do a bit of genetic modification on our bees, nothing major - just make them four inches in size - there would be no problem. we could train them to attack back and swarm across france. easy.

I'm full of surprises aren't I?

I really hope these creatures don't adapt to Britain's climate, because they've got a nasty reputation and a skin-dissolving sting.

I prefer the backhandslap-windowbounce-swiftkickfloorcrusher combo, lethal against any insect up to the size of a sparrow and no smaller than an average fly.
