I have a distrust of government and a hatred of taxes. I believe people should take care of themselves and that government should only provide for security, defense, and a basic infrastructure for commerce. There should be no transfer payment programs. The best government is a necessary evil anything less than the best is just evil.BigBallinStalin wrote:What's with your constant "Extreme Leftist" rhetoric?rockfist wrote:He is a fraud and an extreme leftist. This is extremely relevant to Obama's position on the ideological scale.rockfist wrote:I have a distrust of government and a hatred of taxes. I'm sure what he has done is not extreme leftist by European standards, but everything he has done is far left by American standards, not centrist. Its like turning a ship, he has cranked the wheel hard left. It will take some time for the ship to get turned all the way left but that's where its going if we don't pull hard right (straightening will not work because its already turned some degrees left and will continue on that vector if we straighten).

It means we all know of thousands of people who could do a better job than Obama.Titanic wrote:What is that list supposed to prove exactly? I have no idea what you're trying to prove.

Thats really annoyed me as well, although he is supposed to be mentioning Dont Ask Dont Tell tonight and trying to get it repealed before the midterms.thegreekdog wrote:He's okay... in terms of grades I would give him (for stuff I'm concerned about)...
- Economy - C- (his job creation bills didn't work... but, as the economy improves naturally, he'll take credit presumably)
- National security - C- (Christmas bomber, his Homeland director saying she was most concerned about white soldiers returning home and joining hate groups; but, no big attacks)
- Healthcare - B (He's not doing what he originally wanted to do, which is good by me)
- Taxes - A (He hasn't tried to raise them yet)
- Privacy - F (He hasn't reversed Bush's ridiculous anti-privacy laws)
- Gay marriage - F (He hasn't pushed for gay marriage discussions)
- Immigration - B+ (He's getting there)
I think it's still too hard to tell how he's doing. I might be one of those people that has to wait until after the president has completed his run before making a decision.
So true, he does have so many corporate whores around him, but at least hes pushing them to the side on the Wall Street mess now (Bernanke, Geithner and co). Honestly, I think hes just being there stooge for the first term whilst he tries to get the money and lobbyists out of congress (which he had been doing slowly until the supreme court case last week), and will take a tougher stance in the second term when he has nothing to lose in respect to funding.Aradhus wrote:I think he's a slimey sellout classic politician, which isn't surprising, but it is disappointing. What is it they say about you becoming like who you associate with..
Who knows, with these politicians its all just a game.

I agree with this, except that I think aradhus is being a little too optimistic. Honestly, I think President Obama lacked a lot of "institutional experience" (for lack of a better term), which served him well in the election process. I'm not sure if that has served him well as a president, although it's helped him to think about things a little differently, and has made him at least come across as more likeable than the other Democratic leaders.Aradhus wrote:I think he's a slimey sellout classic politician, which isn't surprising, but it is disappointing. Much as the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy sucks ass...if he DOES get it repealed, he better have a replacement for it (preferably the ability for the services to actually recruit openly-homosexual individuals). If he doesn't have a replacement for it, that will be a very bad thing.Titanic wrote:Thats really annoyed me as well, although he is supposed to be mentioning Dont Ask Dont Tell tonight and trying to get it repealed before the midterms.thegreekdog wrote: - Gay marriage - F (He hasn't pushed for gay marriage discussions)

My worry isn't that so much as having NO policy. The beatings will commence.
