Worst Gameplay Advice you've ever received?

Post by AndyDufresne »

So, strategy is often important to one's play on Conquer Club (when not factoring in the sheer complete un-randomness of intensity cubes, ;))---but from time to time we all have received some poor advice or strategy tips.

What has been the worst gameplay advice you have received? Or a couple of the top nominees?

I once received a lecture on how autoattacking my opponent's stack in a two-player manual game (when both players deploy all their troops right next to each other) is a noobish tactic and that I should have lost when I did so.

Another one, although not to me... I saw a gamechat on AoR2 where a player stated that the best strategy on the map was not to attack.

In my early days I partnered with a guy who sat looking at our opponents' bonuses for 2 turns, then told me the best way to break bonuses is to "sneak attack" them when they are not expecting it.

Second that. Scott-Land convinced me to give it a whirl some months back. Never again.

i´m sure you just misunderstood: he surely meant you should watch and read chat, that´s often pretty funny in these games. He obviously didn´t want you to play ^^

These two games without a doubt:
1:
2007-03-27 20:40:17 - AAFitz [team]: i really wish you checked with me on this...we are going to lose anyways...but now its going to be quick....
2007-03-27 20:42:28 - AAFitz [team]: ill probably be dead...so do what you want
2007-03-27 21:17:35 - Gavino07 [team]: its only round 2
2007-03-27 21:18:14 - Gavino07 [team]: I want you to keep yellow busy.
2007-03-28 14:19:37 - silvanthalas: heh
2007-03-28 15:31:44 - Gavino07 [team]: i meant to drop on Western USA not Western Europe
2007-03-28 15:53:55 - silvanthalas: hrm, Gavino isn't dong much to help you there, AA
2007-03-28 18:49:57 - AAFitz: i noticed
2007-04-01 11:49:16 - silvanthalas: thanks for the game

2:007-03-27 22:16:27 - AAFitz [team]: youre gonna have to hit his 15 in n america...and fortify east africa, with enough to stop blue in aussi
2007-03-27 22:17:36 - AAFitz [team]: you may want to check with me after blue goes on this one
2007-03-28 15:27:29 - Gavino07 [team]: I needed to attack N Africa to get a card. Sorry.
2007-03-28 18:58:55 - AAFitz [team]: lol....you let me die in both of these
2007-03-28 20:16:13 - AAFitz [team]: you seriously have to either fortify me, or just kill me and cash in your cards..and then try to take out yellow
2007-03-28 22:35:41 - Gavino07 [team]: look, i am not going to kill nor fortify you yet! You are benefitial at this point! I have plans for you in Europe.

This was undoubtedly the funniest line in game chat Ive ever had. He attacked me nearly every round, and just handed me to the other team, and I actually think he thought he was trying to win.

2007-03-28 22:54:20 - AAFitz [team]: yellow is going to kill me and take my ca_ds and win...
2007-03-28 22:56:01 - AAFitz: i mean blue...good luck man..youre gonna need it
2007-03-28 23:00:46 - Gaiero: why you say that?
2007-03-28 23:08:37 - Gavino07 [team]: cards?
2007-03-28 23:10:37 - Gavino07 [team]: Damn it. I went the wrong way first.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk
Too much. I know.

I really liked the advice Kid-A gave a player in his assassin game. It used to be in his siggy but it's gone now. Maybe he will stop in here and post it.

I had a team game once where my partner told me that if I cashed my cards and I lost the game, I would lose more points...

Don't remember what unwanted advice (more like orders) he gave me but don't listen to anything Dekloren says; he's a fool and an asshole.

Worst advice: "Always attack the weakest player. That way the strongest player won't be mad at you and will let you live."

Next worst: "Go pet a burning dog."

3rd runner up (not mine, but I saw it in a game chat a while ago): "I'm in the habit of giving 5 star ratings to people who deadbeat."

I remember when we first launched Color-Codes, I saw a game chat where someone was advising their opponent that Color-Codes actually increased assaulting strength when they were turned On.
