XML Updates?

I had read somewhere that Lack was going to be installing some XML updates 'by the end of the year', meaning end of 2009. I am wondering if those updates ended up happening or if they're still forthcoming?

There was an XML update, but it had to do with the protocols mostly - like some tags no longer required in the XML header. A "real" XML update is still on the waiting list...

So there is a real update coming in the nearish future? Or is it one of the fabled things that Lack will get around to 'sometime', shortly after he implements fun stuff like Zombie Neutrals?

My guess is it will happen after 2012.
