That one does look kind of good, but more for the effects than the plot so far. I'm wary of another Speed Racer-style 2 hour headache with nods to a classic.safariguy5 wrote:Not a remake, but Tron Legacy looks legit.

I liked the TV series, but casting white actors to play Tibetan and Inuit characters seems kind of crappy. Also M. Knight Shyamalan directing.muy_thaiguy wrote:ALso not a remake, but the Avatar The Last Airbender has caught my attention if for nothing more than that the tv series was pretty good. Though sometimes such transitions fail horribly, I'll give it a go.
I don't know if you aged 40 years, but Jackie Chan did as soon as he hit Hollywood.Army of GOD wrote:Is it just me or did Jackie Chan age like 40 years?
If the live action Dragonball Z movie was any indication, it won't be any good.Symmetry wrote:I liked the TV series, but casting white actors to play Tibetan and Inuit characters seems kind of crappy. The twist? Everyone was airbending from the start!

Heh- never got into Dragonball, and now it's too long...safariguy5 wrote:If the live action Dragonball Z movie was any indication, it won't be any good.Symmetry wrote:I liked the TV series, but casting white actors to play Tibetan and Inuit characters seems kind of crappy. In all seriousness, Hollywood lost their originality about six years ago.Symmetry wrote:Which movie seems like the most pointless remake/sequel coming out this year? Or, any year really.
My vote:
The Karate Kid
With Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son, Jaden. Please note, film will not actually contain karate.
Six? I've been watching the same typical movie from them for decades now...Woodruff wrote:In all seriousness, Hollywood lost their originality about six years ago.Symmetry wrote:Which movie seems like the most pointless remake/sequel coming out this year? Or, any year really.

But at least they had the humility to change the god-damn names of the movies. That's not even bothered with any longer.BigBallinStalin wrote:Six? I was merely commenting on the fact that they cast a white guy to play Goku in Dragonball Z. As soon as I heard that I was like....yep, movie is terrible. Seriously, they could have grabbed an extra off the set of Gran Torino and he would have done a better job. I just hate how Hollywood stereotypes all mainstream Asian actors as Kung Fu masters and never casts them in anything else even when it's blindingly obvious they should be.Symmetry wrote:Heh- never got into Dragonball, and now it's too long...safariguy5 wrote:If the live action Dragonball Z movie was any indication, it won't be any good.Symmetry wrote:I liked the TV series, but casting white actors to play Tibetan and Inuit characters seems kind of crappy. Well Asians are also science/technology geeks as well. Apparently all hot Asian women are complete sluts for white men as well.safariguy5 wrote: I was merely commenting on the fact that they cast a white guy to play Goku in Dragonball Z. You haven't listed SIn City 2, which should be awesome.Symmetry wrote:Oh, and just to let people know- a few of the remakes and sequels coming out this year:
The A-Team
Nightmare on Elm Street
Robin Hood
Shrek Forever After
Iron Man 2
Sex and the City 2
Predators
Toy Story 3
The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Bizarrely a live remake of Fantasia with Nicholas Cage)
Resident Evil: Afterlife
Saw VII
Red Dawn
Iron Man 2 should be fun, Toy Story 3 likewise. New Robin Hood has Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe, so a step up from Kevin Costner, and a step down from Alan Rickman.

Yeah- just watched the original, and thought it was great. I can't see what a remake would add apart from English speakers. I guess anything with vampires is good for business at the moment, whatever the actual merit of the film.MeDeFe wrote:Damn you! As for most pointless upcoming remakes, Let Me In has to be a serious contender. Really, the original is from 2008, the idea of a remake of King Kong or War of the Worlds makes sense, how the remake turns out is a different question, but the idea of a remake makes sense for movies that old. But Let the right one in is from 2008, there's no reason for a remake practically immediately after a movie has come out, especially not when there's hardly anything about the original that could have been done better.
