Sci-Fi book Fans treat

Post by army of nobunaga »

Been following this for a while. Its pretty fun. A lot of authors of the characters write in their version of the story line.

Its a cagematch of all the biggest characters in Sci-Fi lore. Well a lot of them anyway. I have been getting a real kick out of it. Enjoy.

I Really thought Aragorn or Drizzt would go further. Kovthe is cool, but from the first book, he seems kinda wimpy... dunno.

Um...that ain't "Sci-Fi lore". That's "fantasy lore".

well there is one character that is sci... so whatever dude. Unless you call a robot that goes backward and forward in time not science fiction.

Just a question, could you ever jsut enjoy a thread without trying to poke a hole in it or produce an argument? Is "Monkey business" some kind of debate forum and I didnt get the memo?

I dunno dude, There are not many people I dont think I could just hang out and drink a beer with, you might be one of them. I wouldnt want you correcting me on what beer I should be drinking with sirloin or something.

Anyone that voted for Rand over Roland should be kicked in the junk.

It's Kvothe btw, not Kovthe (and for now, he'll get my vote in the consolidation final).

I voted for Drizzt 'cause A) those books rocked my socks when I was 13 and B) never heard of the Kvothe chap.

The funny thing is that if I'd filled out a bracket NCAA-style, I would've had Cthulhu going all the way. His fight against Lyra was particularly entertaining. 8-)

So a single character out of HOW MANY?

I enjoy accuracy. Words have meaning.

Well, if instead of enjoying what could be a fun thread, you're going to be pedantic, then it's worth pointing out that there are actually several sci-fi characters in the bracket (The Shrike, Arthur Dent, Ender Wiggin, Hiro Protagonist) along with a couple that would be much more in tune with the horror genre (Cthulhu, Anita Blake). So while the majority of the characters are, in fact, fantasy, it's not just "fantasy lore", as you asserted above.

So how 'bout you actually have some fun instead of parsing word choice?

I reckon after he beat Arthur Dent the Shrike should have taken them all.
Roland would have just seen Rand and popped a bullet in his face.

I actually was rooting a little for Authur Dent the most. I Can just see him stumbling through the list somehow =D

Defeating the likes of Rand al Thor with some strange cup of tea that makes all magic null or something.

Accidentally being entered into a tournament for elite fighters and flukeing for the win is actually the kind of thing you could envision Arthur doing.

As things did progress, Rand must win, which is an acceptable outcome. I would have liked Sparrowhawk to go all the way, but what can you do?

Seriously? A gunslinger can kill a guy who decides not to destroy the world at one point?

How does Roland even stand a chance?

I reckon Roland would have dropped Rand before he could do anything.
Besides, you can't deny that Roland is far more bad-ass than Rand.

I haven't read the Dark Tower series, but I did look him up. OK, he's a cowboy. La-di-da.

I mean, sure, bullets are fast, but all Rand needs to do is harden air in front of him, which is one of the easiest things for him to do.

Alternatively, he could prevent Roland from even moving in the first place, tie the weaves, and let him starve to death.

Just saying. Let's not be silly now.

Could Rand kill some random pseudo-medieval bloke just by willing it? Sure.

Could he kill arguably the most lethal motherfucker in modern genre fiction before said lethal motherfucker dropped him? Doubtful.

Besides, Rand's a dithering whiner and simply lacks a killer instinct. He'd be having some big internal debate up to the moment where quite a few bullets cracked his head open like an overripe melon.

Rand lacks a killer instinct? In the last book, he destroyed an entire palace just to kill one Forsaken, and was going to destroy the entire world before deciding it probably wasn't a good idea.

A whiner? He ignores really intense perpetual pain. He loses his hand, and spends about a second thinking "Oh, I lost a hand. Oh well."

I'll admit a really fast gunslinger has more of a chance than your average swordsman, but like I said. Let's not be silly.

I pulled the ripcord on that series a long time ago (after book 5 or 6, whichever was the one that had not so much as a passing reference to Mat), so I stipulate that Rand may have actually grown a pair in the 4000+ pages since I stopped reading. :D

Not sure if you can say he has a pair or not. He definitely is a whack job. I can do an impersonation of Rand for you.

Oh Light, I love Elaine so much. I do hope she is ok. Ponders Rand
"Min come over here and give your dragon some loving and tell me about some funny lights you saw over that nasty grubby no good bitch Aes Sedai's head" Rand Purred.

All of a sudden a deep voice rumbles in his head "WE must kill them ALL , kill all the witches, all the people. IMM INSAAANEEEEEE WHO ARE YOUUUU?!?!"
Rand grabs the one power and satans oil rubs all over his body like mud on a female tinker at bell tine. Yes killlll thinks rand. Rand starts a complex weave like that of asian mat maker, a realy good one. He is about to unleash it and it will travel the globe killing all female bitches err witchs. No I muct protect them thinks a small voice in Rands head. "Oh light, what do I do?!?!" Then the door to his chamber opens and a large hellhound enters. Rand mistakenly thinks its his lost kitty from his village and jumps up to pet it. Rand sees a nice furry kitty in stead of the large man eating hound of evil. But its ok, the taint in him is so painful he has trouble distinguishing reality.

Scene pains out of rand petting his kitty and it lopping off a few fingers from his other sword hand.
