update 04.03.2007

after rubik's cube project was abbandoned due to copyright reasons, i came up with a new idea (see the title above)

here's the original map:

i need:
1. someone to improve the graphics. i obviously can't do works of art
2. someone to take care of the xml coding stuff

This idea is interesting, it'd be a lot of fun to play since if you lose you can just tell the other person something about how great he is at taking over termite homes, lol

Why bother then? I don't understand people that post maps and then say they can't do the xml and are no good with graphics. Posts like this should just go to the "free to a good home" thread.

well, the problem with that thread is that nobody seems to look at it. this way by creating a new thread and a rough sketch i get more feedback.

with the graphics i can get help from a friend (only if it is a certain thing because his spare time is very precious) but with the xml i can't do anything.
but i'm sure that if an idea is good someone will offer to do the xml.

Exactly. This is a cool idea, but the graphics need to be much better and you are totally capable of doing the XML yourself... you can basically start with the XML from another map and just change the names of countries and continents (adding and removing as needed)... then there is a tool to help you place the army numbers. There are not very good instructions, but it isn't hard.

For the graphics, if you don't think you can do it, maybe start with a photo of a termite mound... or find a diagram from a science website or book. Getting the rights to use the artwork would be more likely than many other projects (movies, books, disneyland, etc.). Then add borders and text on top of that (and pick more subtle colors!). You need graphics software that can handle layers!

Or what if you made your map without a computer?... do it as a drawing or clay sculpture and photograph it or scan it. If it was a photo of an actual termite mound sliced in half that would be awesome, but I 'm not seeing one after a quick googling.

I could also see an ant farm as a cool map... or a cave system. Some kind of underground map would rock (pun intended).

Also rename the thread "Termite Mound" so people know what you're on about.

@Wisse. it is uploaded with imageshack. here is the link: http://img404.imageshack.us/my.php?image=mapbeta2gr4.jpg

@EvilOtto.
the map mis made in paint. at that time that was the only graphics software i had on my computer.

in the last days i've installed photoshop inkscape and fireworks 8 and i'm learning how to use them. i could make a better image but i see that most people voted no to the idea.
i'll try making a new improved image and i'll put another poll. if still people vote no i'll abbandon the idea. although i think it's nice.

i'd like to raise each territory. to emboss it but i don't know how :(
i'm not very good at photoshop as i've just started to learn it but i've made a tips and tricks thread and i'm looking forward to people sharing their knowledge. i'm a fast learner and i don't quit easily.
