I think there are too many players in the first round.. What does everyone else think?

Master of Many Settings Tournament
Winner of each game moves on.
All Settings Include:
-Standard
-Automatic
-1v1
-Sequential
-Casual

Each group of 2 players will play a best out of 3 set together on the settings mentioned.

each round includes

Round 1(256 players, 384 games)
Spoils Escalating
Reinforcements Unlimited
Fog of War No

Round 2(128 players, 192 games)
Spoils Flat Rate
Reinforcements Unlimited
Fog of War No

Round 3(64 players, 96 games)
Spoils Escalating
Reinforcements Chained
Fog of War No

Round 4(32 players, 48 games)
Spoils Flat Rate
Reinforcements Chained
Fog of War No

Round 5(16 players, 24 games)
Spoils Escalating
Reinforcements Unlimited
Fog of War Yes

Round 6(8 players, 12 games)

I was thinking that as well, if not for the new tourny database, I would never even imagine trying to get that many players..
If I did stick with this format, what would you recommend for reserves?
I was thinking I would only use reserves in the 1st round, after that, the other player will have a by for that round.. and I was thinking I would get 10 reserves?
