Well..I'm saying that it's highly unlikely it will happen. the War on Drugs and the War on terrorism and the unconstitutional acts associated with them are indeed fucked up and cause for worry, but what you're saying is that it's possible that the US government will suddenly take away the right of privacy for everyone. like, they will wiretap every house and put cameras everywhere.b.k. barunt wrote:
Wtf???? Why am i even responding to this? I guess i'm just a mean guy and so enjoy pointing out your stoopitness."Temporary abuses of power"??? Not one of the examples i brought up were temporary - all are still in place - are you a complete idiot?
Let's start with the denial of secession. Could you possibly explain howthefuck that was temporary? The southern states were conquered and forced to remain part of the Union. Howthefuck can you suggest that this was temporary?
The "temporary measures of the Reagan administration are still in place - they can still seize and auction off any property connected with drugs - before you are tried and proven guilty in a cout of law.
The "temporary measures" of the Nixon administration are still in place - only the postal workers stood up to that one and fought it to the Supreme Court. At this time everyone but postal workers may be arbitrarily forced to take a piss test and lose their jobs if they refuse to do so or if the results show that you're guilty of the heinous crime of smoking pot.
The "Patriot Act" is still in place. Obama has done nothing to rescind it. You can still be arrested and held without due process.
What's to stop them from suddenly demanding that all guns be turned in like they did with the gold under FDR?

It's the point I'm discussing. (and if you didn't realize, I set the topics of discussion around here!)

1) Greek. Not Latin, but a good try.
2) It still isn't Greek, it's a word that draws on Greek roots. But that's me being pedantic.
3) Schizophrenia is not the same as premature dementia (Dementia Praecox).
4) Fairly typically, you've shown that you have no idea what "schizophrenia" means.
I've got to be honest, I thought you'd only misunderstood on fairly common terms. In your reply you've added linguistic and clinical misunderstandings to your list.

Interesting point. It's true that the activists are not neccesarily the majority, however any activist group which is going to really fight needs at least enough popular support to have a safe base and resources. You're not going to win a civil war if just 20% of the people support you.Juan_Bottom wrote:I'm just gonna stick with the American Revolution here.Snorri1234 wrote:I think you guys are missing the point. You need the support of the people.
America was founded by the few standing up against the many. I've read that the Active American Rebels made up only around 20% of the population and counting all of those supporting the new nation we still numbered less than 50% of the population.
The Tyranny was supported by the people, and the few had to fight for the rights of every man.
You are illustrating my point.Phatscotty wrote:only in a "yo momma" contest or if being called names combined with a semi-rare adjective hurts you....thegreekdog wrote:Honibaz is often underestimated.

I just checked it out in the dictionary to make sure i wasn't having a brain fart or too much pot. "Schizophrenia" is New Latin for split (schizo) mind (phrenia). I'm not "pedantic" (otherwise referred to as "asinine") enough to give a good f*ck whether it "draws on Greek roots" or not. It's a Latin word, not a Greek one.
I had a few psychology classes while working on my degree and schizophrenia always interested me, so i remember enough to recognize the fact that you are full of shit. I've also studied Greek, so don't try your fast and loose juggling of the facts with me there. Another interesting nugget that you can also find in the dictionary is the fact that the former name of schizophrenia is dementia praecox. Anymore turdlets of ignorance and/or disinformation that you'd like to share?
Maybe you'd like to redefine "reality" for us - play fast and loose with the Latin roots of the word or somesuch?

Here[ad. G. schizophrenie (E. Bleuler 1910, in Psychiatrisch-Neurol. Wochenschr. XII. 171), f. Gr. mind: see SCHIZO- and -IA1.]
There's a tremendous difference between "removing everything preceding" (which is what you did) and "not including everything" (which you're trying to claim you did). You just can't help yourself with the dishonesty, can you? Is that a Christian thing, or is it just you, Jay?jay_a2j wrote:Dude, you are way too paranoid. Is that a Vulcan thing? Oh for fucksakes strap on your prosthetic nutlets and try and work up the nerve to admit you were wrong. Here, let me spoon feed you - i'll type out the quote from "The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language":Symmetry wrote:
1) "The" dictionary? Which one?
2) What on earth is New Latin? Did you mean Neo-Latin?
3) It's still from Greek. Sorry, it just is.
4) You've misunderstood the history of schizophrenia. In the past, several diagnoses of dementia praecox have been suggested now to be actual cases of schizophrenia. Similar to female hysteria, however, it wasn't just the previous name for the problem. "A" previous name would marginally more accurate.
5) Feel free to share with us the Latin roots at literally any point.
If it helps, here's the OED etymology:
Here[ad. G. schizophrenie (E. Bleuler 1910, in Psychiatrisch-Neurol. Wochenschr. XII. 171), f. Gr. mind: see SCHIZO- and -IA1.]
Use the link if you need to see the Greek characters, not supported here. The "f.Gr" means "from Greek".
