And yet all you were able to offer as point-in-proof was a selective cornucopia of franco military victories weighed against an even more selective handful of defeats? It's a rather silly line of discussion anyway, though that hardly excuses the err of anecdotal omission.

Now, I will grant the French never engineered such stunning military conquests as the Battle of Beledweyne when the brave conquering vanguard of Canadian forces masterminded that brilliant victory over Somali children armed with Red Cross food packets. The blood of those kids running fresh and red through the streets that day surely taught the entire 3rd grade class at Beledweyne Elementary "dontcha mess wit Canada, eh!"

I will say one good thing about Canada, that being they don't really allow white males to hold office as Governor-General or provincial Lt. Governor. That is possibly the one way Canada redeems their great crimes of racism and imperialist oppression and, if collective national guilt is what it takes, that is no price too high for Canadians to pay. They owe it to their many victims the world over.

Ah, the elegance of dialog with a Canadian. A pinnacle in forensic speech. The embodiment of class and refinement.
Glad you can apreciate it.
Sometimes one must call it like it is.

And quit trolling the Canadian military. Somalia was a blemish and a tragedy. However we started global peacekeeping remember?

Any shit stains on your countries military history Saxi? Hmmmmmm????

You're missing the point about France btw.
intentionaly I'm thinking.

Tangents and muck chucking. You are good at what you do, Sax.

Off-topic: why is it that Americans are such ingrates towards the French? Historically they've done a whole lot to support you guys, but as soon as the USA thought they were a bigger world power, they started trying to belittle the French at every opportunity.

I recommend visiting Versailles, specifically the Hall of Battles, to anyone who would like to see over 1100 years of France "surrendering".
I'm pretty sure most French hate Americans, so apparently the feeling is mutual. Although maybe Inklosed will fix this one too:
I'm pretty sure everyone hates Americans.

So "global peacekeeping" is what Canadians call massacring 8 year old "blackies" (as the CF refers to them) and their mothers, or executing prisoners of war in WWII, etc. etc. etc.?

Your Canadian brain, like most, has been so very cleanly washed such that you really believe Canada is a great, universally loved paragon of social justice as opposed to the friendless, despised, bumbling sycophant the world really views it as ... that's okay, I still love me some Tim Horton's!!! :P

I suppose it's the same reason you believe that Americans are such ingrates towards the French.

That was the most fascinating example of a thread going 'off topic' I've read in a while.

The Americans hate the Canadians, their bitches, for no other reason that Americans are arrogant twats, the Canadians hate the Americans, because they're so much richer than them, and not generally quite as cold. Face it, the whole world hates the French, that's what they were put on the earth for.

"I will not cooperate in such action; and I will not acquiesce. On the contrary, I shall accept the recognition of the independence of the Confederate States by France and Great Britain as a casus belli for Russia. And in order that the governments of France and Great Britain may understand that this is no idle threat; I will send our Pacific fleet to San Francisco and our Atlantic fleet to New York. "
Alternate view of Tsar's actions...

They (Russian Fleets) put into New York and San Francisco harbors and spent the winter there, and the average Northerner expressed both surprise and delight over the visit, assuming that the Russian Czar was taking this means of warning England and France that if they made war in support of the South, he would help the North. Since pure altruism is seldom or never visible in any country's foreign relations, the business was not quite that simple. Russia at the time was in some danger of getting into a war with England and France, for reasons totally unconnected with the Civil War in America; to avoid the risk of having his fleets icebound in Russian ports, the Czar simply had them winter in American harbors. If war should come, they would be admirably placed to raid British and French commerce. For many years most Americans believed that for some inexplicable reason of his own the Czar had sent the fleets simply to show his friendship for America.

Yes, the Tsar said as much in his memoirs.

We are just so much better and get tired of saving you all from each other!

Heck our navy alone has more tonnage than the next 17 largest navies in the world combined.

Bet our navy can solve some issues in greece...

As an impartial observer I might comment that - with 83% of Canada's exports going to the United States (the third highest one-nation trade dependency in the world after only Swaziland and Lesotho) - whatever happens to the US today happens to Canada in triplicate next week.

If the US loses a finger on Monday, Canada loses an arm on Friday.

This is an unfortunate situation for Canada to be in; whereas the U.S. could suddenly make a decision to do something different to avert its fate (I doubt it will), Canada has no control over the destiny that awaits it. It is resigned to simply hoping things turn out best for the US. :(

That said, the centralized nature of policing in Canada (outside Quebec and Ontario, of course) puts it in a much better position to, tactically, respond to restraints of civil authority. Also, Canadians have much more docile personalities relative to Americans, and especially to Greeks, which mitigates how robust civil contingency operations have to become (in fact, though they don't like to admit it, Americans tend to be more docile, themselves, than continental Europeans - perhaps not to the extent of Canadians, though).
Yes, TY sax. I was wondering how someone could grasp the concept but only part of the implications....

unfortunately, not good. America voted for Obama. you can see what has happened since. This has been Obama's economy for a while, the recession ended about 6 months after Obama took office. A dictator could not turn around an entire economy in 6 months....

I understand people will continue to see what they want to see, so that should be all....

Be Well

The British kicked their arse repeatedly throughout the Hundred Year War, the Gemans kicked their arse in WWI, then bitch slapped them in WWII, the Vietnamese kicked their arse after WWII and they had to cry to us for help.

Are you fooking serious?

Meh, ancient history. The Foreign Legion was made up of many nationalities and that's your only modern day "French" soldiers worth mentioning. The examples i gave stand. In the 20th century France was noted for getting her arse whipped on a regular basis.

Generally, I found Parisians to be snobs towards Americans, and from there and probably also in northern France is where you get the hate-all-Americans French stereotype. Southern France is very accommadable and the people are just great, very warm very friendly.

Nearlly all of the Frenchies that I've encountered tend to be good when they find out that you're not a typical American. A few are just close-minded snobs (who come in all nationalities).

Deep down, I think they're still bent of shape about the lingua franca being replaced by English.

Great. Now I would like Johnny Rockets to apologize, on behalf of the Canadian people, for their century-long history of crimes and racism against First Nations people, the Quebecois, Somalians, prisoners-of-war, Japanese-Canadians and everyone else they have massacred in their vicious drive to quench Canada's national bloodlust that has made it one of the most reviled nations the world over. (a fact, over which, they seem stunningly oblivious)
