Yeah, definitely a good film. Just recently released on DVD, loved the drunk vomiting and pissing aliens and that weird gangster who wanted to eat them to gain superhuman powers. I think there will be a sequel to it released at some point.

The movie really is awesome, but... a sequel? I fear that could very well ruin it, it depends on who's producing it of course, but chances are some people are going to want to play it safe and produce a popcorn action movie.

I still need to see this movie. I missed it in the theaters last summer.
Is it the kind of thing one should rent or just buy? Seems like most people I've talked to want to see it multiple times.

I myself wouldn't see the sequel unless i heard some really good reviews. What made the movie for me was the documentary type footage in the beginning, not the action sequences in the end.

The first half is definitely the best part, just loved the rounding up of the prawns - absolutely hilarious: 'Hello little one! It's the sweety man coming!'

Absolutely. Once the screenwriter decided to make it into a rote shoot-em-up action move at the end, it got a little repetitive. Very good idea for a movie, though.
and the film strongly hinted at a sequel at the end.
I kindly disagree sir. The film was a political commentary on Africa today and yesterday, so I think the ending was just that as well... We know what we have done. We don't know what this will mean in the future. Is it a reckoning coming or will there never even be a rescuing?

That's a hard call. I'm pretty tough on films, my friends tell me... but I am a real Cinema Addict. Personally I have the "you've seen it - you've seen it" attitude, although everyone disagrees with me. That said, you'll prolly get the urge to see it again in the future.
Disagree that it strongly hinted at a sequel... Even if there will be one, it completely contradicts the message of the movie, and ultimately, would dilute &/or destroy that message. Where is Charlie Chaplin when we need him! (that's a United Artists reference)
District 9 is an amazing movie! It's so unique! A unique story. Usually in movies Aliens scare people and kill them, but in District 9 is the opposite. I like it a lot.
