Thought this might be interesting given the variety of nationalities on here.
Just submit a post marking up the two teams from each Group you think will progress using the list below. Then come back in a couple of weeks and tell me (honestly) how many you got right out of 16. If this works we'll do it before each round, but 2 points each for naming the last 8, etc.

I joined the prediction sites for Yahoo and ESPN. If anybody wants to form a group competition therethen we can do that. It's cool though if you want to keep it here though.

This is the first time in ages that a world cup has been held in a country where the majority of venues are at altitude. I would of thought that this would play into their hands

(I've been saying since the groups came out that Brazil wouldn't get through... and even though I don't really believe it myself, I'm sticking with my stupid, moronic, 'well obviously he's an American Idiot' pick)
Nobody's had the guts to take SA yet. I almost took them over Mexico as they are not the greatest team when they are not playing at Mexico. But I decided that their home field advantage was not enough to bank on against the likes of Mexico and France. Still, somebody has to believe they'll do it!
Also, I don't think I have any major upsets. I don't consider picking against Argentina an upset. They only made it to the WC because of timely losses by their opponents. They are easily the most over hyped team in the WC. It's sad how many experts put them in their semifinalist predictions.
Ghana over Aussie & Serbia is maybe my upset pick. I just think they'll get a home field advantage and maybe those 2 teams will cancel each other out somehow.
The hardest picks were between Slovakia/Paraguay and Portugal/Ivory Coast. I tend to lean towards the Europeans in this climate for the former and gave Ivory Coast the edge with a home field. Plus Portugal can lay eggs in WC games. But unlike Argentina, Portugal has the talent to do damage in this WC.
I'm not making predictions, but something tells me that Spain/Brazil are not quite the favorites. I think we're going to see one of those teams have some struggles in the first round. And I'd bet it would be Brazil. They're still the smoothest team, but they don't dominate like they once did and people need to realize that.
I look for the winner of the England/USA to win that group and maybe make some noise in this tournament. So that is maybe the most pivotal first round match-up in the tourney.
Lastly. I hope North Korea gets booed back to their commie country with an 0-3 record. They can suck it!
My version of the whole WC - Spain KO route is Ivory Coast (possibly Portugal), Italy, Argentina, Netherlands. Lucky they have an easy group stage or it'll be a heck of tournament for them.

Algeria over USA, you saw it first here My biggest doubts were Denmark & Switzerland anyway... They did so well in qualifications, but in quite weak groups and were inconstant in the friendlies, so hard to judge.

There are a few of us showing them some respect, but most are picking the Aussies over them. I personally feel, with the injuries to the German side, that Serbia will win the group straight up.

As they should
I've noticed that Groud D is the most unpredictable as evidenced that nearly all combinations have been predicted(except Germany has been included in all of them) I for one don't really think Serbia will be as tough as competition to Australia as Ghana. Even without Essien I am expecting an upset from them.
