As with all objectives, you win if you still hold them at the beginning of your next turn.

that not the best way to win try and take groups (groups A and group B) and take both winner and runner up

so you want to take all 2 adjacent (for example)all of groups A and B and groups A winner, groups A runner up groups B winner and groups B runner up. that give you like 13 troops then start taking other pairs or groups

edit you are correct
but I go first for winner->elimination route

i do manual so i take all at once but yes this makes sense although if you take A first then you should take winner A and runner up A before going for B
