NYC has many good things going for it, though I certainly wouldn't want to live in the middle of it.

Well I do…and I love it.

Detroit on this poll; Utica off it.

If I was single (or at least not a parent) and a decade or two younger, I suspect my attitude would be different.

I disagree about Inner Harbor. Just a lot of overpriced, mediocre restaurants and flashy lights. It's kind of like the Times Square of Baltimore. Worth going to for the spectacle I guess, but overall, meh.

Some neighborhoods are alright, but overall - don't stay out at night.

Yes but they are cutting taxes on small businesses starting very soon....

at least they are starting to act on pro-business/job creation incentives...I would argue as bad as Detroit is, at least they are starting to attempt to turn it around

Detroit should follow the lead of San Francisco and declare itself a "sanctuary city". However the sanctuary should be from federal income taxes. Want to bet on how fast Detroit would grow when they decide that federal laws do not apply to them?

Obama will sue them. Obama says we cant be having states pass their own immigration laws. I assume, if he is not full of shit, this would also include cities making their own immigration laws. After all, I have heard numerous times the argument from the administration and the liberal media...

Are we going to have 50 different immigration laws?

There are a lot more cities than there are states. I am sure Obama will equally oppose 30,000 different immigration laws...right?

8-)

P.S. take Detroit out and just put in the the title as "besides Detroit"...then we can really get into it!

You must have never been to the south if you think Utica is bad.

... Went to Detroit years ago. The sign as you enter the city read, "Welcome to Detroit". Somebody had scrawled beneath that, "Where the weak are eaten".

First of all, whatthefuck is New Orleans doing on the poll? Are you brain dead? Do you eschew culture and historical significance? Do you have a problem with beautiful Creole wimminz?

Secondly, anyone who has been there will tell you Lubbock, Texas has no peers in the "Worst City" category. The smell itself is enough to keep the fainthearted from venturing closer than a hundred mile radius. If they made an outhouse for cows it would smell like Lubbock. Good cows go to heaven, bad cows go to Lubbock. The Bush family hails from Lubbock.

I've seen more than a few bumper stickers that say "Happiness Is Leaving Lubbock, Texas".

I don't seem to recall anyone saying Detroit is the worst city because there are black people. It just so happens to be the worst city, and it just so happens to be 82% Black, make a connection if you wan but you are the only one who brought race up, and according to this pole (below) you are the racist one for deciding that Detroit can't suck because of all the black people.

Actually NONE of those cities is truly the "worst city in America" or even close. In truth, it is more like a list of the "best city in America" candidates. I, greekdog, several others metioned far more reasonable suggestions.
That said, given the choices, Detroit is near the bottom. Detroit was so heavily vested in the auto industry, other "heavy" industries, it has taken some pretty serious hits.

Maybe this thread should be called "worst notable city in America"

Exactly. Cause otherwise the Tacoma Aroma would add Tacoma to the list, and Ellensburg WA ain't that great of a place, along with some shitholes in idaho etc. I went for large cities that were easily recognizable. I'm happy to see that all options except 1 have at least 1 vote.

Tell that to the people who say the Tea Party is racist because they dislike Obama's policies, and Obama happens to be black.

Well I live in Canada, but I've been to the States quite a few times. Also, since my parents grew up in Niagara Falls, Ontario they often went to Buffalo. Apparently Buffalo is getting worse and worse every year.

That being said, I've been to Detroit and it was a horrible experience.

Sad to say, of the cities on this list, ol' Saxi will have to vote for NYC. (Ol' Saxi has never been to Detroit.)

Ol' Saxi used to live on 78th between 3rd & Lex and, verily, it was dreadful. Of course, that was 20 years ago so perhaps it's changed since then. So much noise, and so many people, and garbage, and odors and whozit and whatzit and this and that and comings and goings.

Ol' Saxi is quite happy in Santa Barbara. It reminds him of growing up back in Saxony, except with better weather, a nicer landscape, more voluptuous women, greater entertainment options, finer wine, no bomb damage and spelled differently.

Can a place with only 52,000 people really be called a city? I've been to concerts with more people.

Are you the in-duh-vidual who voted for Boston as the worst city?

You know they deliver LNG to a lot of places... you know this right?

Yeah... there are a lot of Libs here, but we have some people fightin' the good fight.

We just sent Scott Brown to the Senate remember.

We started the Revolutionary War here.

We have Sam Adams Beer... and the Red Sox, and Pats, and Celtics.

Please consider changing your vote. :)
