WWII Pacific

Post by jigger1986 »

Hey all, I thought of a good map idea. I made a rough copy of the map using a pre existing map and paint. It is a very rough copy and kinda jumbled, but the idea is there. Looking for some feedback, if any interest is generated I can look into making a better copy. Please let me know what you think.

It's a good idea (the WWII pacific aspect) but I think this needs a lot of work. The bonuses and rules seem jumbled unbalanced, and hard to follow. 15 for Japan with colonies seems crazy high. Try streamlining this idea a bit, focus it a little.

I think if you're going to make a map based on the entire pacific theater, it should be more epic in scale than 42 territories -- I'm thinking something like an equivalent of WWII Europe.

That would be interesting, but I wouldn't mind seeing a half split of the theatre, like was initially done for the Europe series of maps.

I did this a while ago but I've abandoned it because the notion of a player arising out of the Dutch East Indies and taking over the USA and Japan was too ludicrous to merit continued work. The basic set up is the Industry territories are starting points and the rest is neutral. I'd consider starting it up again if I could somehow secure only two-player games settings.

I was thinking of adding subs as well which could bombard all ships as well.

Hm, I like the visual theme you had going there...it looks like a fun map to play. It reminds me a little of Axis and Allies.

Yeah, Axis and Allies was a big inspiration.

I'd say pursue it, whenever you've got free project time. It is an area and time I'd like to see some maps from.

Well, i wonder how lack might feel about a 2-player only game. It's an area CC needs to branch out more into, I think. That and borrowing ideas from the other great tactical board game, Axis and Allies.

I know lack is more inclined to move towards mega-games (9-20, or more players), than small-scale games. But I think this is going off topic.

Hi,

I like to see such a map, but also wish to add some remarks.

- Most of fighting was performed on small and large islands
- Most of the naval activity was performed around carrier (groups) which did not see each other
- the land mass is IMHO less interesting.

You could choose for a static map, showing the maximum amount of land conquered by Japan.

You might be tempted to choose another kind a map. One which shows the action in a series of Allied landings on an bunch of islands. Hawaii and Midway could also be included because of the battles fought there.

Furthermore you could to show some Allied submarines eliminating the Japanase merchnat as the Allies had broken the 'Magic Code' by which the Japanese communicated.

My 5 cts

I think the map is a great idea. I also agree with the subs idea.

comment to follow thread. I like the idea and Industrial Helix's map, though it's a rather weird scale.
