How about a Pokemon map? it can have Johto, Kanto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh. The map would have to be from the games, not the official artwork, because the official artwork is too complicated. I think it would be fun.

I fear copyright would be an issue... if the original classic map impinged on copyright, this definately would. Suppose you could go about getting permission, or making a similiar but not the same type map, but it all seems like a lot of unnecessary faf

Well is there a way that CC could get pokemon's permission for them to promote pokemon somehow. say that if we can have a map with pokemon on it you may be able to interest more people from this site to get pokemon. i would love to see a pokemon map and maybe you could have more than just one map, you could have one for kanto, johto, hoenn, sinnoh, and now isshu. you could also have maps with the pokemon from each region on there and you would get bonuses for certain amount of types like three water pokemon would grant two extra troops or evolutions where if you owned the whole evolution set you would get a one extra troops. and you could even have one where there are characters and yiou get the character and pokemon to go with it so it would be like a pokemon battle you could even make a gym as a map with pokemon and obstacles on it.

I doubt you would be able to get that many pokemon maps through the foundry

Getting pokémon's permission should be doable. They probably would love a way to get people interested in them again; 'cause as far as I can tell, pokémon is nowhere near as popular as it used to be.

Your original idea was the map of regions and stuff like that, and it's an interesting idea, but the idea that really caught my attention was the gym battles. THAT, would be fun. And even if you didn't get permission from pokémon, you could still make a map for battling like that.

Also I don't know if you could really conceivably put Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Isshu on the same map, they're all in different places and barely connected. Kanto/Jotho map would be epic though.

Getting pokemon permission for a CC map isn't an easy thing (for my personal experience is an impossible target)
Honestly I think that maps based on pre-existing trademarks or with copyright problems rarely will see the day on CC.
If you have other projects in mind, my suggestion is to focus on them instead of wasting time in getting a permission that you will not ever given.

But in any case is a very different thing.

I want to be more clear, i'm not saying that is not possible to do a map about pokemon, but if someone wants to do it, he must have a written permission.
And i'm 99,9% sure that Nintendo & friends won't give the permission to him without a profit. So in the 99,9% of cases the mapmaker should develope a map about pokemon without using pokemon or direct references to them....that has no great sense imo. I'm not sayin that someone shoudn't try; I'm just givin an advice to prevent to see someone waste his time as iceco did with his attempt a year ago.
