3 Most Overrated Movies of all time?

Post by Frito Bandito »

In honor of the 3 favorites, my current list of 3 most overrated

The English Patient

American Beauty (I love Kevin Spacey, but this was not oscar worthy)

Avatar (great special effects, but an innane, predictable, stereotyped storyline)

honorable mention- Titanic, couldn't put it there since I have made it a point of principle not to see it :D

I'm with you on that. I've been waiting for the sequel, Titanic 2: The Long Journey Down.

When Titanic came out on video I was working in an optical shop in a mall (the Navy Exchange in the Groton CT Submarine base) Preparing for opening up, I passed the line of women and girls waiting for the mall doors to open so they could rush to buy it. I said "I'll spoil the movie for you: the boat sinks."
The right answer to the wrong question is still the wrong answer to the real question.

No shit. Lost an hour and a half of my life watching that movie that I will never get back.

Another one for me would be that remake of the Phantom of the Opera. Horrible diction in the singing and the only movie to this day to have ever put me to sleep. Other people I have talked to thought it was a good movie somehow. I just don't see it.

For the last, I would have to go with Avatar. Nice special effects does not equate good movie in my book. It is the same as "Ooh, shiny. Me like shiny!"
"Eh, whatever."

(1) Avatar - I thought the hype around this movie was ridiculous considering the subject matter. Great special effects? Sure. Good storyline? Not really. Good acting? No way... horrible acting if anything.

(2) Superbad - The first 20 minutes were funny. The rest, not so much.

(3) Godfather I - Don't get me wrong, I like it. Godfather II was just significantly better.

For real. Extreme, ground-breaking camera angles don't make up for the fact that it's one of the most boring movies I've ever seen.
Super Troopers - Sorry, the first 15 minutes were funny, and then nothing.
The Graduate - You're tapping a milf. And?

This movie is so polarizing. I loved it, everyone in my family likes it, but I've got a few co-workers who just didn't get it. I guess I enjoy off the wall humor!

You cannot overrate this film. It is impossible.

three most overrated films:

1) Anything with will ferrell in it. Especially Talladega Nights, which i watched against my better judgement because a friend convinced me it was a funny will ferrell movie.
2) Titanic
3) Anal Shopping 4. It was one of the most highly anticipated adult releases of 2004, but Anal Shopping 3 had set the bar so high that it was always going to be difficult to meet those expectations. In the end, it failed miserably; the characterisation was terrible, the plot was wafer-thin and the script pedestrian. Big, big letdown.

"2001"
"Brokeback Mountain"

Btw, men who don't like "Fight Club" are swishy.

Casting in another vote for "impossible to overrate 2001".

Citizen Kane, while overrated, doesn't make the cut because it's still decent. Gone with the Wind, maybe (it's been a long time since I've seen it). I'll throw in A Death in Venice because it's the only other movie I can think of atm that is supposed to be good that I thought sucked.

Really? I thought Anchorman was a great movie. I concede maybe his later stuff wasn't as good, but Anchorman was really funny and quotable. You stay classy San Diego.

I have a few poitns to make.

1. f*ck all of you that think Napoleon Dynamite is over-rated. That movie was genius.
2. You think Fight Club and 2001: Space Oddessey are over rated Mets and others? lolbbq what's wrong with you people!
3. And Woody, I'll just pretend you didn't put Matrix on there...
4. MasterFenrir, I'll just pretend you didn't put Super Troopers on there...

My list:

1. I think we all agree taht Titanic is over-rated
2. Braveheart *prepares for flak*. One of the two movies I've ever fallen asleep during.
3. Lethal Weapon. God I hate that movie. My brothers are obsessed with it (we own all of them) but I can't get past 5 minutes of taht shit.

I don't understand why this movie is famous. Its like two and half hours long. Two of those hours are silent scenes of people walking or things slowly moving through space. The other half hour doesn't make any fucking sense. The parts with hal were good, though that's about 15 minutes. I also enjoyed the part with the Russians as I could understand their smalltalk.

All of the Harry Potter films.
Seriously, anyone who read the book and then watched the film will throw up immediately.
