I might have been thinking. "I don't want to risk my stack here on just top pair. I can wait for something better." I can't just check it, I'll bet kind of small.
I have also done that, followed by not being able to let it go after the donkey shoves. "What's he got? I'm top pair here. if I'm good I can cruise with a really nice stack, I might have to make this call. These people are terrible, is he trying to push me off with a pair of 5s?"
I was not suggesting I would never have done exactly what you did. It's just easier to see what you should have done from here after the fact.
One of the problems with a limp pot is that you don't get a good read on what the other player has if they are the big blind. I probably would have pushed harder with top pair and I'm assuming no flush draw on the board.
The hand that i lost on was played really badly by me. Blinds were up to 800 and 1600 and i had about 7K
I was dealt a k9 off suit and was out of position. Called the blind, everyone else folded so it was between me and the big blind. (big blind had about 8-9K)
flop came down 3K5 rainbow
I bet 1600
big blind calls
turn - 4
I check
Big Blind pushes all in.
I'm sitting there thinking maybe he's now hit 2 pair, I was fairly convinced that he had deffo beaten my king. So I call his all in after 3 or 4 minutes of shall i, shan't i ?
He turns over 26. Game over.
Knocked out by a 2 fucking 6. Sick as a parrot.
Ouch...those are particularly painful because, as the big blind, there was no reason for him not to be in the hand and K-9 offsuit really isn't an out-of-position raising hand unless you like to play a lot more on the edge than I do. Bit of an odd flop call though, with the inside straight...but not too out of line, given the size of the blinds and your bet. And you sure as hell can't expect him to have 2-6.

Only about 6,000 spots left....
Thanks for the heads-up...I'm in there with you. ($4,460 at the moment)

Me too...had top pair after the flop and a dude hit runner-runner to make a straight and knocked me out for a LOT of chips. Was in 142nd place at the time too, damnit.
What I find most annoying is that I already had a note on him that said "Poker DUI" before he even came to my table...so I'd seen that sort of move from him before.

I love the game. It is definitely my favorite form of poker. I sometimes play in real life, but normally only online, and normally on facebook's Zynga Poker. Unfortunately, whatever program they use for the cards is extremely flawed, as the cards simply don't fall like that every hand in RL. It seems as if every hand there is the possibility of a straight or a flush. Those aren't supposed to come up that often. But anyway, it is quite a bit of fun. And the best I've done so far in the tournaments on that site is placing 2nd in the final round of a shootout tourney. I won 200,000 chips for that one. Not that that amount makes much of a difference, as I've got around 5,000,000 chips currently. I sure wish that was real money!
