Won my first comp at cartographersguild

Post by RjBeals »

Thought I would show off my first mapping challenge win.

The monthly "lite" challenge was - we were given a black & white outline and asked to create a map from it. No rules - just wide open, as long as you incorporated the shape. So I went with the standard islands/water theme, and just sort of made up the map as I go. No point to it. It was intended for wacom tablet practice.

Anyhow - here it is.

Thanks.

Cartographers Guild is a general forum for mappers. Most of them are fantasy role playing mappers - but they all share a common love of cartography, and they all have different skill sets - from the novice, to the professional paid ones. There are maps over there that simply floor me. Inspiration.

Every month (or 2) they have open competitions, winner gets a medal under his avatar. Different themes each time. Now the current them is mapping new york. No rules - just incorporate new york into a map. I'm entering also. Top 45 maps get displayed in a gallery in SoHo new york. There's only about 30 entries thus far, so almost a guaranteed spot in a real life gallery.

it's mentioned on the front page.

Very nice work!

My only crit would be that the lighthouse seems a tad out of place. A little too simplified for the texture of the map. But overall, really quite nice!

I saw this map the first time when you were working on the lighthouse perspective or something like that on Cartographer Guild.
I must say that it looks really nice, i'm happy you won the competition.

Congrats for your victory RJ =D>
