i don't think the word 'f*ck' on a picture of jesus is particularly appropriate. as a catholic i find it extremely offensive and disrespectful towards my religion, and i'm surprised that no one has complained before (unless they have).
religious figures are sacred, and should not be being defaced with sexual profanity in prominent places on this site. owenshooter has made nearly 7000 posts, and any posts he makes on a message board topic are accompanied by this picture; it therefore appears all over this site, in places that many people who probably don't wish to see it will be visiting. it isn't as if you have to specifically go onto his profile to see it.
i consider defamation of a religious icon to be a deliberate attempt to inflame users of christian demonination. consider how acceptable people would find use of a picture of allah with the word 'f*ck' written on top of it. or, leaving religion aside, a picture of something like the twin towers with 'f*ck' written over them. it is unecessarily provocative.

He only has it on his avatar as a statement.hairy potter wrote:if he started a thread against someone else with 'f*ck' written on their avatar then that would suggest that he is well aware of how offensive it is

that doesn't make it acceptablegrifftron wrote:He only has it on his avatar as a statement.hairy potter wrote:if he started a thread against someone else with 'f*ck' written on their avatar then that would suggest that he is well aware of how offensive it is

Ironically, owenshooter's use of it here is as a direct statement against such words being used on avatars.hairy potter wrote:Accused:

I'll bet you it wouldn't.Hardline wrote: I'd also bet you if Muhammed's picture appeared somewhere, it'd be deemed "offensive" and have to be removed.
Also, you have no clue why Owen is doing this. It's not a statement on Jesus, so get off your high horse and stop judging people like your God supposedly teaches.Hardline wrote:Foe the guy, let the minor inconvenience pass, and remind yourself that no amount of annoyance felt by you now will compare with the look of surprise on his face when he burns, burns, burns for eternity

I do not believe self honesty would be considered offensive by CC. But doing that may be considered a bait/flame of sorts. Kinda like when you all took bogans and douched it...MNDuke wrote:Would it be offensive for me to take owenshooter's avatar and write douche on it and then display it as my own?

The coolest is squishyg

However when you use religious imagery and invoke the name of someone many take as holy, you are indirectly making it about religion, whether you meant to or not.squishyg wrote:ok...this is nuts.
the profanity on owen's avatar is a comment on CC's stance of allowing mods and other players to use curse words in their avy's. this is not about religion.

yes-speaking your mind does not come without consequences. provocative actions tend to, you know, provoke people. but people are missing the point here.hairy potter wrote:the arguement i'm seeing in favour of owen seems to be generally consistent with an 'it's a protest, not an insult' point of view
pissing on soldier's graves in 'protest' rather than as an act of anti-social behaviour would still be frowned upon

Issue of first impression eh? Would you like the C&A mods to crucify him?Metsfanmax wrote:All these posts miss the point. It's not about whether saying the word "f*ck" is allowed; it's about whether saying "f*ck Jesus" is allowed. The policy regarding whether that message is allowed obviously ought to be unaffected by the intent of the user who made the avatar.
