Why are some people so dumb?

I don't understand why this happens time and time again. Standard 3 player a game, not escalating, 1 person gets out to a big lead, maybe they took another players base. Instead of both players teaming up and attacking the clear leader and giving themselves a chance. One of the weaker players decides it best to concentrate on attacking the other weak player. Its just baffling to me.

Then when asked why they attacked, they will say something like, well I didn't know where the strong player was.

I can kinda understand if someone is just giving up and want the game to end. But most of the time they claim they are using good strategy by attacking the other weak player.

Not everyone's strategy is equally strong. What seems obvious to you, may be extremely difficult to grasp for someone else. Some players don't play close enough attention, others don't know the game well enough (either the game as a whole or the settings of that particular game (flat rate specialist with no experience on escalating, anyone?)), or simply have no idea what they're doing.

If you are a good player, you know what kind of mistakes your opponents can make, and take advantage of them. That way, you'll win more often then you'll get screwed over.

Thanks, I guess I have been the beneficiary of this poor strategy too. Its still very frustrating.
