Suggestion: Combine the two attack dropdowns

Post by stocksr »

* Suggestion Idea:
Rather than having 2 drop downs to chose your attack why not combine them into 1 listing all the possible attacks in the format.

My Territory 1 ==> Opposing Territory A
My Territory 1 ==> Opposing Territory C
My Territory 2 ==> Opposing Territory C

* Why it is needed:

It will make it impossible to select an invalid attack.

* Priority: 1 - Bottom of 'To Do' list

Any Comments?

and what if i wanted to attack from the country i invaded, or not attack a country because somewhere else ended badly for me?
I see no point in this.

SirSebstar, my suggestion would not prevent you from doing either of those things.

The two drop downs are currently filtered by what is possible for you to do all I am suggesting is merging them into one list rather than two.

I also thought of another advantage

It will reduce the number of clicks required to make an attack. From 5 (open drop down FROM, select Territory, open drop down TO, select Territory, Click Attack) to 3 (Open Drop Down, Select Attack, Click Attack).

boberz, I am not convinced that it would be too long if it only shows valid attacks.

I try to keep my number of borders down (and assume that is how most people play)

How many items would you say is to many? 20? 50? 200?. I cant think of a normal game situation where there is likely to be more than 20.

start of a world 2.0 game, you can attack from every one of your territories to at least 2-3 others.

I think it would make the list too long, as there would be so many different permutations.

Ok taking your worst case "Start of World 2.0", with no two of your territories adjoining.

That gives us 112 territories divided by 6 players = 18 each
If we go with each of them able to attack 3 places that is 54 items.

Now if we look at the existing drop down in the same situation the TO list will have up to 54 items in it anyway. I admit that some would be duplicates so lets say that it is 30 its still is not a lot more.

The next upgrade for attacks should be clickable maps. I don't think this is a great idea because the list would be huge, and its really not that different from the current setup. Plus, sometimes I do invalid attacks on purpose, and I like having that option. :wink:

Actually I agree with the author - I think that in some instances this can cut down on the drop downs...

ALSO - it would make sure that you didn't miss any attack routes too - sometimes I'm not sure if 1 territory can attack to another...

However - I don't think this change will work for Fortification... Especially in "unlimited" mode...

Thus perhaps we should keep the same style for both areas?!

Why not keep both drop downs, but if you select a country from the first dropdown, the second only shows the valid possibilities.

this also makes it impossible to select an invalid attack.

3 player on this map??
also easier to move too quickly and misread your names as the current way it takes longer (having to scroll through two different options) so you notice errors more, in three months time loads of people will want it changed back, look at the suicide button loads of people want back
