how do you find out if the gameplay is balanced without a trial?Industrial Helix wrote:Don't start on the code just yet... gameplay needs to be balanced and the graphics need examination.DukeHazzard wrote:
yes. I was just waiting for the go ahead before I started on the code. Still making some minor touch ups on the map. Will post it soon.
Well, the map is more like a science fiction sort of with that moon ray and whatnote. Something along the lines of Woodboro would be quite cool in my opinion.DJ Teflon wrote:Hmmm - how unrealistic do we want the future world to be though?AndyDufresne wrote:I think this map would benefit from less-than-realistic depictions---what I means is, less Arms Race more Woodboro.

The Woodboro idea is suggesting you graphically go for brighter colours, and I guess gameplay-wise it means a system which doesn't involve the big bonus.DukeHazzard wrote:so I am unclear on the woodborough idea. my intention was to have an arms race/lunar war feel. I cant visualize what my map would look like "woodboroughized". It's all solid colors on a drawn map. mine is overlayed on a real map. how do you suggest I incorporate the 2? before this idea came across, I had a few changes. so here is the next in the updates.
You could have the same gameplay for all I'm concerned, I just think that a realistic depiction of all this is less interesting than a version that has 'more fun with itself'---like Woodboro, or maybe even Duck and Cover.DJ Teflon wrote:The Woodboro idea is suggesting you graphically go for brighter colours, and I guess gameplay-wise it means a system which doesn't involve the big bonus.DukeHazzard wrote:so I am unclear on the woodborough idea. my intention was to have an arms race/lunar war feel. A question of taste - I personally think you can stick with your intended style - sci-fi but not too far fetched or comic-parodied?
I'm guessing a balance would involve lighter colours and more chunky iconic symbols / spaceships?

Did you draw the world map yourself?DukeHazzard wrote:so I am unclear on the woodborough idea. my intention was to have an arms race/lunar war feel. I cant visualize what my map would look like "woodboroughized". It's all solid colors on a drawn map. mine is overlayed on a real map.

I used a satelite image map and cut it apart to reverse the continents. then touched it up where needed.natty_dread wrote:Did you draw the world map yourself?DukeHazzard wrote:so I am unclear on the woodborough idea. my intention was to have an arms race/lunar war feel. Where did you get the satellite image? Industrial Helix wrote:Yeah, I'd say draw in a new world map rather than use the satellite image.

I haven't decided if I'm going to change the map yet, but am still considering it. And I'm still working on other points on the map, so I may not get to it for a while. But I won't forget about the suggestion. ThanksIndustrial Helix wrote:Industrial Helix wrote:Yeah, I'd say draw in a new world map rather than use the satellite image.
