What about cannabislistic and cannibalistic societies?Juan_Bottom wrote:You realize that you believe in the Bible at the same time that you know it's bullshit? That makes no sense. Juan_Bottom, thanks for pointing out the obvious to people who already knew all about it. It was fun to scroll through it.
John9Blue, so you like to study the behavior of atheists?
This isn't true. There have actually been dozens of books that I'm aware of all published on human nature and our universal moral code. Isolated tribes in the Brazilian rain forest have exactly the same morals that you do.shieldgenerator7 wrote:Because of my sinful nature I would have to assume my morals would go down the drain if I lost my faith, hypothetically.
So since you're not answering, I'm assuming your moral code was taught to you by your parents?

I'm not saying that some people believe that the Bible is full of lies and misdirection. My position is that is an established fact that the Bible is full of lies and misdirection. You said that you already knew that, but believe in it anyway. Since you know about these lies, I can only assume that you believe in the Bible because you want to believe in the Bible. And for no other reason. That is a human weakness.shieldgenerator7 wrote:Juan_Bottom, I realize some poeple disbelieve in the Bible, but despite that, I still believe in it. Whether or not some people out there think the Bible is fact or not has no impact on whether or not I believe in the Bible, which I do. Does that help you begin to understand this "human weakness"?
Are you talking about ones that murder people just to eat them, ones that murder people to avoid starving, or ones that eat dead relatives to get closer to their Gods? Obviously learned behaviors and mental illnesses and defects will all play a role. Christians have been known to eat people.BigBallinStalin wrote:

Nonsense! Don't you partake of the sacrament? Your church performs communion, correct?shieldgenerator7 wrote:Christians eating people? Not all Christians do that... in fact, I can't think of one who does.

Hahaha...it was a joke, brother. I understand that communion is all symbolic. No, you're not actually eating the body of Christ. You're eating wafers that represent his body and drinking grape juice (or wine if you're a catholic) that represents his blood. Still, you should step back a little and realize how absurd that sounds to someone who may have never heard of christian doctrine before.shieldgenerator7 wrote:You calling us cannibals because of communion?! What?! That just shows what little you understand of Christianity. (no offense, brother)
What's this? No mention of cannabislistic societies?Juan_Bottom wrote:Are you talking about ones that murder people just to eat them, ones that murder people to avoid starving, or ones that eat dead relatives to get closer to their Gods? If you're talking about the Kulina tribe (had to google the spelling) all the evidence points to some kind of serial killer homicide.

I think cannabilicious societies have the same morals as every one else, except their morals allow them to get high and not feel guilty about it.BigBallinStalin wrote: What's this? No mention of cannabislistic societies?

Hmm- there's plenty of historical evidence for Christians calling each other cannibals. Protestant accusations against Catholics often used to take that line as a way of mocking a certain type of Christian belief.shieldgenerator7 wrote:You calling us cannibals because of communion?! Could of told you that without a wikipedia article.Juan_Bottom wrote:If you simply look up Cannibalism on Wikipedia you can learn all sorts of stuff. The French are sickos.

Do you consider Catholic Christians to be cannibals when they take Mass? Catholic Christians believe that the bread becomes the body of Christ, and the wine His blood during the ceremony.shieldgenerator7 wrote:i'm not a cannibal myself, and I can't think of one person who is. certainly it happens sometimes, but it really does make me sick

Me- not at all. I'm an atheist, but also an historian. It's interesting when debates like this turn up. You took issue with the accusation about cannibalism and immediately suggested Communion, which is purely symbolic. Mass is not, or at least not in the same way.shieldgenerator7 wrote:er, no. does it make you sick?Symmetry wrote:Do you consider Catholic Christians to be cannibals when they take Mass? Erm, I think I deleted a sentence there without realizing it or something....tkr4lf wrote:Could of told you that without a wikipedia article.Juan_Bottom wrote:If you simply look up Cannibalism on Wikipedia you can learn all sorts of stuff. The French are sickos.
You do understand though, that for Catholic Christians they're not drinking grape juice? Or wine? It's the actual blood of Christ. And the bread becomes His body?shieldgenerator7 wrote:ok. yes, I understand that during communion the bread is the body of Christ and the wine (we actually use grape juice) is the blood of Christ. But to me, that's not cannibalism. That's honoring a sacrifice.
I have delved into the history of Christianity but not with a focus on cannibalism. In any given topic, there are so many aspects of it that it is hard to cover it all.
Yes it is interesting to see an aetheist's point of view on cannibalism and Christianity. Thanks for your opinion.
