Yes, I'm sure your world will crumble without all that bullshit. Yeah. Let's see....they're gonna lockout non-essential workers.Mr_Adams wrote:The government is more shut down on a national holiday than when the government shuts down.

Why the f*ck are we paying for no-essential workers to begin with?
Non-essential workers include those who work for network security. I can't imagine what else could be included in that.HapSmo19 wrote:Yeah. For clarification non-essential = non military + non national security + non jack booted federal agents + non aircraft controllers.

"Non essential mean people who won't cause imminant harm if they are off a few days. It does not mean "non essential" as you are trying to interpret it. They include things like people who process mortgages for HUD, some janitors, most National Park employees (the parks close), etc.HapSmo19 wrote:Yeah. Well, the Department of Homeland Security, Office of Budget and Management, Social Security Administration and Treasury Department is a good start.HapSmo19 wrote:Who's network?GreecePwns wrote:Non-essential workers include those who work for network security.

As I understand things, our troops in Afghanistan will not be paid (but almost certainly will be back-paid, of course). But get this...Congress still gets paid. f*ck Congress.
He is, absolutely. But he absolutely isn't the only one. I certainly don't hold him blameless at all. But his point in doing this is directly due to the political gamesmanship of the Congress and he's doing it to put the pressure back on them.Mr_Adams wrote:They sent up a continuing resolution JUST FOR MILITARY PAY to Obama, and he vetoed it. he's playing political games.Woodruff wrote:I did. Yes, there is absolutely no justification for their pay to not also be on hold.Mr_Adams wrote:Also, I agree. In my job, if I screw something up, I stay and work without pay to fix it. It should be the same with the Government employees.

If I didn't have an ex-navy lib-loon in my family I'd be tempted to think you were a bot and not just a parrot.
From what I heard, that's not exactly true. It is true that military members would not be paid during a shutdown, but the whole truth is that they are only paid once a month. So they'll still get paid on time if the government is re-opened on pay day. If the shutdown does not overlap with their pay day, then there will be no pay lost or delayed for the members of the military. It's one of those arguments that have a slight amount of truth in it and then spun to epic proportions for political purposes.Woodruff wrote:As I understand things, our troops in Afghanistan will not be paid (but almost certainly will be back-paid, of course). Thanks for that clarification. So if the government is reopened on the 14th (or 13th if you want to allow a full day for processing), the military paychecks will be normal as if the shutdown had not actually occurred.PepperJack wrote:Night Strike wrote:From what I heard, that's not exactly true. Yeah, we get paid twice a month. The pay day on the 15th will only account for the 1st through 8th. For those active duty service members that do not live in barracks (mostly married) this is a serious issue. Those that do not live in barracks have their housing subsidized by the gov't, the possibility of being put out on the street is very real if this shut down is prolonged.

Yes, that's absolutely correct, though it's twice per month. I didn't mean to mis-lead anyone...I sort of failed to remember that wasn't common knowledge. Not on my part it wasn't. My reason for pointing it out is that the blood-sucking pathetic useless Congressmen are still getting paid REGARDLESS of when the shutdown ends while those on the fucking firing line are not.Night Strike wrote:It's one of those arguments that have a slight amount of truth in it and then spun to epic proportions for political purposes.
I think NS was augmenting your point- politicians make it a playing chip to use against each other, when it should be counted by EVERYBODY as a strike against ALL OF THEM.Woodruff wrote:Not on my part it wasn't. I disagree, given his "slight amount of truth in it" which a bunch of shit. If I remember correctly, the last time this happened, it lasted for three weeks.Mr_Adams wrote:I think NS was augmenting your point- politicians make it a playing chip to use against each other, when it should be counted by EVERYBODY as a strike against ALL OF THEM.Woodruff wrote:Not on my part it wasn't.
