Of course they do. Like I said in my post, the XML file is out of date - I did it before I changed the map. I just wanted to illistrate that they army shadows are large enough.
Update v15:
Minor updates...
Fixed a 'glitch' here and there.
Fixed up the legend.
Made the whole northern border a river.
Fiddled with the mountains - there are 3 different mountain types - please tell me which you prefer.
well i see 1 mistake, for now, and these is bonus box,you must put all bonus numbers in 1 line.
And try to put army circles in terittory, of course when is posible.
I indeed have been following it. Lets start off with some things I think are looking and feeling fantastic!
Ocean, and names of the respective oceanic regions...looks wonderful. When maps have large bodies of water, too often they distract or just fall short of fitting with the map. I don't have this feeling about your ocean, I love it.
And on the water topic, your rivers feel like rivers. That doesn't sound like a compliment, but too often...along with large bodies of waters, rivers can feel out of place. I think yours fit nicely into the whole picture. The only thing I dislike here is what seems to be a gray/white line 'underneath' the river that follows it in some areas.
Regarding the color scheme, I think you've made some spectacular choices in shades and tones. My eyes are pleased when I look upon the map. I don't have to look away in fright or due to any excessive brightness. Nor do I have to bump the brightness up on my monitor to figure anything out. Wonderful balance. I think you might want to consider, though, altering the color of either Western Cape or Natal...just to differentiate between them a little more, you know? Maybe even play with the non-gameboard brown slightly. Also are the gray lines in Limpopo used in place of the white country divison lines for clarity?
As for images on the map, I like the mountains in the Western Cape. The ones near Lesotho look a little pixely compared to those others. And the ones near Swaziland seem to have lost their 'black line edge' compared to those near Western Cape. I'd go with what feels the best for the map, the black outline mountains or the more faded ones. As for the bridges...I think they look quite nice! Fit well with the general feel.
Staying on track with the images sort of, the South African flag seems a little odd. Maybe it's the fuzziness? And the sharpness of the Title? Play around with that, I'd say.
Regarding the Legends, I think they do a pretty good job. You could change 'unpassable' to 'impassable', but both say the same thing, I just think impassable is of more common usage. And in the Bonus Legend, Limpopo's name seems a little blurry and not as clear as the other black ones, deliberate? Gaut. also seems a little off in clarity.
Hm, and for the country names...is it just me or do they seem a little...blurry? Or not as sharp? There is something about them, I can't put my finger on it.
As for the bonuses, they all seem consistent. This map is in similar theme to other maps that lack the 'Gigantic Battle Ground' continent, like Asia in the Classic. I've never been a big fan of all the similar bonuses, but I think the addition of the ports (to increase movement along the map) and the Landlocked nations helps spice up the deal, and make it a little more flavorful...at least for me!
Yes i mean these but now all names is not in 1 line.
exampe
western cape--1
Northern cape-1
freestate-------1
Kwazulu Natal-1
You see all names is in 1 line and all numbers is also in 1 line. I hope you understand now. Army circle standing good, only in Cape Winelands you can erase 1 small part of mountans too circle have free space.
I prefered the legend left aligned rather than right.
Western Cape mountains get my nod of approval. However, pay careful attention to your layers there, I can see some weird overlapping going on. Also, I'd consider toning down the edge on them, just a touch.
Update v18: (Some minor updates not shown where I played around)
Changed some borders for better fitting text and army shadows
Changed bonus text alignment.
Softened colors in dead territory.
Standardized mountains.
Fixed rivers glitch.
Changed one Freestate border and increased bonus to 5.
Darkened KZN territory.
Fixed up font. Again.
Changed flag and map name.
Thanks to your map (or rather my observing it's progress through this thread) I was able to answer a pub quiz question this week - "Name the landlocked country within South Africa"
