After a long night it was time for rest, but on man refused to sleep, he appeared to be sitting quietly, but had little other choice but to do so, he used surveillance equipment from the confines of his wheelchair to listen in outside his window. From the adjacent window the balcony was scaled by a mysterious assailant, he walked into the room to take out the old man, but unexpectedly the elder of the two was prepared, he pointed a revolver at the intruder and demanded he leave "Get out, you aren't the first I've killed in my life, but I'll let you leave the way you came in."
The other killer was enraged "Don't think you are better at this than I sir!" he lunged at him and the trigger clicked.
Nothing
The veteran sighed, "Damn! I can't remember anything these days." he looked to his side at an old army photo and spoke to it "Looks like I'll be joining our squad again..."
"Well, I'll admit, you gave me a start, I'll return the favor, you can be the one to go the way I came." The intruder quickly pushed the man with enough momentum to send him off the balcony.
Elsewhere the down and out gambler was looking around, he lost big last night and needed some cash to get him started again, he walked from place to place asking for a quick loan, explaining he could pay it pack soon, but was turned down, it was then he heard a voice, "Hey! Come over here, I have a bet to make you.". It came from the beach off to the side, the lucky man was wary, but as his name and profession implied, he isn't one to turn down an opportunity.
He looked around the dark beach and saw no one, as he turned to leave he felt a sharp pain in his back, he quickly jerked back and collapsed, hovering over him was a man dressed in black robes, he gasped and choked but no words would come, he was forced to listen instead. "You see my friend... I was sent to kill you, but that, like your pathetic need for money that will leave your hands tomorrow anyways, is meaningless in this world." the robed man started to walk away as he talked "If you want a meaningful bet, one that will change things, I bet you that you will not be able to leave this beach before the tide comes in, the stakes are your life."
