Re: California [24 Jun 2011] 5.1
You have very valid points here. Amount given for bonus should be based on how borders to protect and how many regions within bonus. However, prominent cities or countries within the region of a map SHOULD be listed. Has anybody ever heard of half of these cities listed on the California map? I haven't and I've lived in California my entire life. Exactly my point.natty_dread wrote:When I made my first map, which is incidentally being revamped currently, some guy from Denmark was horribly offended when Denmark's bonus was (is) only 3 on the map. He said "Denmark is such an important and powerful country that there's no way it's bonus should be so much less than Sweden or Norway!"
I tried to calmly explain, that no matter how much political power a country has in the real world, if it's only a few territories on a map and has only 2 borders, it's bonus has to be low for gameplay purposes.
Gameplay balance needs to be first priority (as we recently bitterly learned on the Korea map) over historical, geographical, economical etc. accuracy. There will always be someone who lives in Poland or whatever and thinks his country should give a +10 autodeploy... however, it's much more important to make sure the map plays well than to worry about things like who's got the biggest cities or most money in the real world.

So it seems we're ready to go. Right?
In that case, TBK could you please post all the files? (just to be sure I don't send to Lack the wrong files).

Conquer Club, enjoy!
While the map is in BETA Play, there are a couple of administrative tasks that are required of the mapmaker(s) in addition to the initial gameplay testing:
- 1. Please ensure that the first post of the thread contains all the necessary information to help future visitors to the development thread; it's particularly important to ensure the most recent images are there, along with any helpful guides (such as gameplay quirks/nuances or the location/size of any starting neutrals etc.)
2. Please update the Map Information Portal with details of your map
3. Finally, it is the responsibility of the mapmaker(s) to ensure that they respond to further feedback in a timely and constructive manner.

Congratulations TBK!! Too bad I'm still a free player. I need to lose one game before I can join in the sunny California fun.

As a Native Californian I love the map. However I must point out the Napa Valley/County is mislabeled. What you have there is Sonoma county. Napa Valley/county is the east of Sonoma County.
Hope that before this leaves this point someone take a look at. I live in Sonoma valley and The Napa valley does not extend to the ocean or hit Mendocino county. Here is a link to an appropriate map. http://geology.com/state-map/maps/calif ... ty-map.gif
Thanks for all the hard work!

Well I wasn't really going off of counties when I did this. More just cities and geographical zones. I was aware that Napa isn't doesn't extend as far west as pictured, that was just a fib that some other Cali native said would be fine just to fit Nappa in somewhere.Boss Tokugawa wrote:As a Native Californian I love the map. However if that really does mess things up I suppose we could scrap Richmond rename in Napa and move mendicino down. I'm not sure what I'd call what was Mendicino then, but I'm sure I could find something. What do you think of that Tokugawa?

Why is El Dorado below Sacramento?
I live north of sacramento and south of el dorado....This would be impossible if California was laid out the way that you have it...Can you please fix this, it's very offensive to me that you have el dorado below sacramento
