Bachmann, Perry, and Romney tend to capture the older voters (can't remember those statistics in the fora are located).

he is pro-life. what he is saying is he will not let his stance on the issue interfere with the states rights to choose for themselves. I think a bigger problem for him is selling his libertarian stances to republicans. This helps if you ask me.john9blue wrote:eh, if there's one thing i think paul's doing wrong, it's trumpeting his stance on abortion. lots of libertarians or socially liberal conservatives will think he's a pro-life fundamentalist and not vote for him. besides, isn't his position (correct me if i'm wrong) to let the states decide whether to outlaw abortion? so he would allow abortion as the u.s. president. kind of misleading.
it does help in that respect.Phatscotty wrote:he is pro-life. what he is saying is he will not let his stance on the issue interfere with the states rights to choose for themselves. I understand 100%. I myself am somewhere in the middle in abortion, but the issue hardly registers for me as far as my vote. I think the fiscal crisis and coming crises are all encompassing and priority #1. I am willing to put all other issues aside because I dont think Cain or Romeny or Perry would do a single thing to address this issue unless they were absolutely forced to.john9blue wrote:it does help in that respect.Phatscotty wrote:he is pro-life. what he is saying is he will not let his stance on the issue interfere with the states rights to choose for themselves. but people look for reasons NOT to vote for candidates.
pro-lifers will dislike the fact that he won't allow the federal government to ban abortion
and pro-choicers will dislike the fact that he will allow states to ban abortion
It's interesting to note how people have been culturally conditioned into expecting the president to be the only one to delineate the laws of this country. Of course, the president frames the laws through legislation, yet the people still think that the framing should be decided by one one person--and not the Senate, Congress, or even their own States' legislatures.john9blue wrote:it does help in that respect.Phatscotty wrote:he is pro-life. what he is saying is he will not let his stance on the issue interfere with the states rights to choose for themselves. I'm just commenting on the general lameness of the US voting market.john9blue wrote:when did i ever say that?BigBallinStalin wrote:It's interesting to note how people have been culturally conditioned into expecting the president to be the only one to delineate the laws of this country. the president has more power over potential legislation than probably any other person. that's a fact.
