How many fonts do you guys have?

I just checked, I have 463.

I just take comfort in the fact that I know of some guys with like 30 000 of them...

I have to believe that those guys haven't even looked at them all, let alone used them all, and I would bet that they might be disappointed to find many, many duplicates. I mean, can it be very hard for an unscrupulous person to take a bunch of fonts, rename them, and then remarket them as unique? It's only copyright infringement, and we all know how much of that goes on across the Internet.

I did at one time have like 2500 - 3000 fonts until my HD crashed.

Its not about how many fonts you have, but how you use them!

On the laptop here I have 302 fonts installed, and a further 7 sitting on my desktop. I don;t know how many are on my other PC, but there will be a heck of a lot more on there.

In recent times, I have taken to copying/saving the font files I have used in the same folder as any PSDs I have been working on. This makes it easier to transfer projects between workspaces, particularly where you may download a font for one project in one place, and use it for another project later down the line. It also makes it easier to share work with others if you can drop them the font files as well as a layered PSD.

i do this exact same thing with fonts and brushes because for some reason i delete them from photoshop when the project is finished.

at some point i used to keep everything installed but i got to a point where it was a total mess.
now if i need a certain font i google it, install it then save it with the project and delete it from the system. everything is neat and tidy now

Having too many fonts installed can have an effect on system performance. I found that on my old PC, definitely.

So true. Just the disk space freed up by deleting a lot of Chinese and Japanese fonts was worth the effort, though it did make some of the posts in the Japan map topic less pretty.

I'm not at my primary computer to give font totals, but I employ a similar setup as MrBenn and DiM. Whenever I start a project I look for a font that matches what style I'm going for, download it, and go from there. R&C saw me putting 3 new fonts on my computer and employing a fourth that was already on it (Castellar).

I don't use the cloud. Why should I hand my files over to somebody else to look after? I use a couple of computers, but either transfer files through a USB drive, or over the home wireless network.

Well I store fonts on my own computer, and I haven't noticed any noticeable slowing in my system. Besides, even if they do cause slowing, I can always "uninstall them" by storing them in another directory.

I like having fonts at my disposal all the time. I do occasionally look for new fonts for a project, in case I can't find a suitable one in my collection, but as my collection grows this becomes increasingly unlikely.

"Fonts" folder –– Right click > Get Info = 1.19 GB on disk (1,175,756,972 bytes) for 9,814 items

Although I never have more than OS fonts + core fonts + current project fonts activated.
To anyone with few hundred fonts I'd strongly recommend some kind of font management software. I'm using FontExplorer myself, and activates/deactivates fonts with a click as I go along –– activated fonts are available in CS immediately, no need to restart your programs.
In FontExplorer you can also sort fonts in maps by project. Very easy to deactivate all fonts for a project when it is over (or reactivate if you wanna start it up again...)

Never-ending discussion.
I'm mostly a PC user, although Mac is great for some things like music production or professional drawing.
Certainly you don't need a Mac if you want just to play games.

Personally I can say that for music I prefer to work on a Mac (thankfully my "old" brother has one Mac that he lends to me when i need to compose songs).
Both machines have their pro and cons, as said it depends what you have to do with your machine.

What I hate on the Mac side is that fucking i-tunes...i really hate it!
